  • Publication number: 20140100877
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for helping users navigate healthcare facilities. In one embodiment, a patient at a healthcare facility downloads a healthcare support application onto his or her handheld device. The healthcare support application may include content for orienting the patient and helping the patient to make informed decisions, as well content which allows the patient to provide feedback. Additional, personalized content may be provided by a surveillance interface based on a status of the patient. The surveillance interface may include a listening application which detects changes in electronic health records (EHR) related to the patient, and a surveillance application which cross-matches the changes to relevant content, organizes and/or generates personalized content from the relevant content, and pushes the personalized content to the healthcare support application.

  • Publication number: 20140082254
Abstract: For cache/data management in a computing storage environment, incoming data segments into a Non Volatile Storage (NVS) device of the computing storage environment are validated against a bitmap to determine if the incoming data segments are currently in use. • Publication number: 20140082296
Abstract: Data operations, requiring a lock, are batched into a set of operations to be performed on a per-core basis. A global lock for the set of operations is periodically acquired, the set of operations is performed, and the global lock is freed so as to avoid excessive duty cycling of lock and unlock operations in the computing storage environment.

  • Publication number: 20140041347
Abstract: A method and associated apparatus are described for addressing blow-back when a hydrogen generator is attached to a combustion engine to enhance performance. The method involves positioning a filter with a porous flame tolerant core upstream of the combustion engine on a supply line leading from the hydrogen generator to the combustion engine. The method also involves surrounding the porous flame tolerant core with a hydrophilic filter medium. The hydrophilic filter medium serves as a trap for water vapour passing through the filter in a first direction and the hydrophilic filter medium moistened by water vapour assists in retarding flames passing through the filter in a second direction.

  • Patent number: 8607005
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for determining prefetch data. A start module communicates a start of a target software process to a storage device. A learning module learns data blocks accessed for the target software process. In one embodiment, a prefetch module prefetches the learned data blocks in response to the start of the target software process. An end module communicates the end of the target software process to the storage device. In one embodiment, the prefetch module terminates prefetching data blocks and the learning module terminates learning the data blocks accessed for the target software process in response to the end module's communication of the end of the target software process.

  • Publication number: 20130305517
Abstract: Systems and methods for mechanically coupling multiple components using captured threaded connectors are provided. The attachment points between components are aligned along a common central axis about which the channels are aligned. Threaded connectors are provided and contained within a pocket within each component, prior to assembly of the system. As a result, components of the system can be detached without disassembly of other components, or without the use of special thread patterns to allow clearance for the driver for the head of each. Threaded connectors are kept from falling out and are also allowed to float along their axis within the channel so that components can be aligned first, and then anchored together. Drivers used to couple components have a diameter smaller than the channel.

  • Publication number: 20130253232
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the extractive recovery of a homogeneous ruthenium catalyst from the reaction product of the hydrogenation of glycolic acid, glycolate esters, and/or glycolic acid oligomers with an extractant comprising a hydrophobic solvent and an optional hydrophilic solvent. The ruthenium catalyst, which can include 1,1,1-tris(diaryl- or dialkylphosphinomethyl)alkane ligands, can be recovered from the hydrophobic extract phase by back extraction with a hydrophilic solvent and recycled to a process for the preparation of ethylene glycol by the hydrogenation of glycolic acid and glycolic acid derivatives.

  • Patent number: 8521157
Abstract: Systems, methods, apparatus, and computer program products are provided for re-routing calls from mobile stations. For example, in one embodiment, a call from a mobile station to a non-local number can be re-routed to a local number. The local number can then be used to communicate with a call server to deliver the re-routed call to the non-local number.

  • Patent number: 8509822
Abstract: Methods of determining and providing location information as to the whereabouts of a wireless device are disclosed which have less geographical precision that those based on GPS or triangulation algorithms, but which are much more scalable, efficient and less costly. The methods make use of SMS paging and in particular obtain cell and cell sector information from a wireless device from a response message to an SMS page to the device. The cell and cell sector is converted to user-friendly geographical information such as an address or name of a building using a database correlating cell sectors to landmarks, location or addresses, and this user-friendly information is returned to the requestor.

  • Publication number: 20130197366
Abstract: Embodiments of catheters, imaging systems and methods for intravascular ultrasound imaging are presented. At least one miniaturized transducer element adapted to be inserted into a vascular structure and configured to produce signals for use in generating one or more ultrasound images of a desired region within the vascular structure is used. Further, one or more apodizing structures operably coupled to the transducer element and configured to decrease the responsiveness of the transducer element at one or more boundaries of the transducer element with respect to the center of the transducer element are used. Particularly, the apodizing structures reduce sidelobe amplitude of an ultrasound beam profile in the region of interest, thereby generating improved ultrasound images.

  • Patent number: 8494791
Abstract: Methods and systems for improving correlation of shear displacement waveforms are presented. The method includes delivering one or more reference pulses to a plurality of target regions to detect corresponding initial positions. Further, a plurality of pushing pulse segments are delivered to one or more pushing locations, where one or more parameters corresponding to the plurality of pushing pulse segments are adapted for generating a shear displacement waveform with a desired wave shape. Additionally, one or more tracking pulses may be delivered to the plurality of target regions for detecting displacements of at least a subset of the target regions as a function of time. Particularly, the displacements are determined as time samples of the shear displacement waveform. Subsequently, a shift between the shear displacement waveform detected at least two different target regions in the subset of the plurality of target regions is detected.

  • Patent number: 8486266
Abstract: A waste treatment method includes the concentration of selected strains of bacteria in a selected medium in the presence of nutrients and water, under aerobic conditions. This concentrated batch is discharged for downstream applications in wastewater remediation. A cultivation chamber having inlet ports and a circular vent port allows for adequate air introduction and heat release. Aeration is achieved by recirculation of the fluid medium from the top of the apparatus through a pipe that runs the length of the inner wall and is specially configured at the top to minimize cell damage. Fluid can be routed tangentially in clockwise and counterclockwise directions. The conical bottom has an orifice allowing for recirculation of the fluid medium tangentially to the sidewalls. Upon completion of batch cultivation, the medium and bacteria are discharged for downstream applications in wastewater remediation of paper mill, chemical plant, oil refinery, and other industrial effluents.

  • Publication number: 20130125174
Abstract: In a television system in which at least program title information for programs which are to be transmitted in the future is transmitted in advance to form a channel guide listing, apparatus is provided for searching the listing for specific user-entered information, and upon successful conclusion to the search, the apparatus schedules the tuning of the desired program, or in the alternative, notifies the viewer of the availability of the program. In those instances where descriptive text accompanies the program listing, apparatus of the invention performs a search of the text for a particular text string which may relate to the title, the star, the director, or the context of the program, among other search criteria.
