  • Patent number: 4566017
Abstract: A method and apparatus for increasing inking resolution with an ink-mosaic recording device. In order to increase the resolution simply and without additional transducers, each transducer is comprised of two contacted piezoelectric strips which are enclosed between plates. By means of differing voltage on the strips, the transducer bends in addition to a change in cross-section of the channel formed. Thus, it becomes possible to eject drops of fluid at different positions intermediate undeflected drop ejection positions.

  • Patent number: 4566018
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a recorder operating with drops of liquid for recording respective points of an analog curve or alphanumerical characters and/or images on a recording medium. In one embodiment elongated piezo-electric transducers are provided for producing the drops of liquid, the piezo-electric transducers being disposed in rows, being clamped at one end and being contacted such that they bend perpendicularly to a plane through the transducers in response to electrical potential changes at the contacting.

  • Patent number: 4539575
Abstract: In an illustrated transducer construction, electric potential changes applied to the transducer effect piezoelectric movement for causing recording fluid to be ejected through a jet orifice and applied on a recording carrier. In order to increase the maximum drop frequency and in order to improve the drop formation and drop speed, in accordance with the disclosure the linear distance of the connection points of the two ends of each transducer with the orifice plate is smaller than the length between the connection points as measured along the transducer. The transducers are thus mechanically prestressed to assume an arcuate configuration so that, in the rest state, recording fluid is disposed between the transducer and the plate. Given an electric driving pulse the transducers are shortened and conform with the plate in a planar fashion. Immediately after the excitation, each transducer returns to its arcuate initial configuration.

  • Patent number: 4536097
Abstract: A mechanically stable, piezoelectric print head for an ink jet printer has ink channels formed by a channel matrix that consists of a row of piezoelectric strips disposed in spaced parallel relation next to one another, covered by a plate on both sides. The channels thus formed directly institute the printing nozzles.

  • Patent number: 4479982
Abstract: A lyophobic layer is produced on surfaces of a jet-orifice carrier of a recording device functioning with fluid droplets by generating a uniform and pore-free layer on surfaces of the carrier with the application of high frequency/low pressure glow discharge using a gaseous organic compound, such as octofluorocyclobutane.

  • Patent number: 4438441
Abstract: A mosaic recorder for selectively ejecting recording liquid droplets from a plurality of nozzles in a recording head onto a moving recording medium for punctiform representation of characters and images has a plurality of piezoelectric transducers respectively associated with each nozzle which are individually actuated for ejecting a droplet from the associated nozzle. The individual transducers are in the form of teeth of a comb-like bilaminar piezoplate consisting of piezoceramic material and a carrier material. The piezo material is removed from portions of the free ends of the transducer teeth which overlie the nozzles for reducing the hydraulic coupling between the teeth in order to substantially minimize cross-talk between an activated transducer tooth and the adjacent transducer teeth.

  • Patent number: 4409601
Abstract: A mosaic recorder for ejecting liquid droplets for punctiform representation of characters or images on a recording medium has nozzles arranged in rows in front of the recording medium, each nozzle having a piezoelectric transducer associated therewith, the individual transducers being bilaminar teeth of a comb-like piezoplate consisting of piezoceramic material and a carrier material. The piezoplate has a base by which the transducers are attached to a recording head. For reducing the mechanical coupling between the transducer teeth so that transmission of coupling forces from an activated transducer tooth to the adjacent transducer teeth is substantially eliminated, the ceramic material between the teeth in the area of the comb base is removed so as to provide a gap between adjacent teeth.

  • Patent number: 4409602
Abstract: A mosaic recorder having a plurality of nozzles for ejecting recording liquid droplets on a moving recording medium for punctiform representation of characters and images, each nozzle having a piezoelectric transducer associated therewith and said nozzles being arranged in a recording head adjacent to one another in rows, has an improved nozzle structure wherein the inlet opening of each nozzle is generally oblong in shape and the nozzle tapers to a smaller circular outlet opening from which the recording liquid is ejected. The relatively large size inlet opening increases the ratio of the inlet opening size to the outlet opening size, thereby increasing the ejection speed of the recording liquid droplet. The hydraulic separation between adjacent nozzles is also increased and the mechanical coupling between adjacent transducers is decreased by the oblong configuration of the inlet opening while the spacing between the nozzle outlet openings remains the same.

  • Patent number: 4273366
Abstract: The illustrated embodiment shows helical grooves of tapering cross section in the inner walls of the interfitting ends of the conduit sections for producing a rotation of the fluid as it enters and leaves the space between the annular terminal surface of one conduit end and the confronting interior ledge of the other. Because of the rotation any air bubbles are removed during filling of the conduit. For particularly vigorous rotation the annular terminal surface and/or interior ledge may be formed obliquely to the flow axis.

  • Patent number: 4261208
Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, the liquid pressure to be measured is in a liquid container with an inner tube forming a measuring cell arranged in an outer tube, which measuring cell can be filled in part with a liquid and in the remainder with a gas. A conduit that can be filled with the liquid leads away from the measuring cell, which conduit is open on its end facing away from the measuring cell and can be directly connected with the fluid in the liquid container. A transducer for generating an electric magnitude which corresponds to the gas volume in the measuring cell is arranged in the measuring cell. A channel is left free between the outer tube and the inner tube for the passage of the fluid. The inner tube is closed on its end facing away from the measuring end of the pressure transducer.

  • Patent number: 4182316
Abstract: A holographic system for recording movements of body surfaces of a patient characterized by a source of coherent light projecting on the body surface to create an object wave and having a portion of the light as a reference wave, a film carrier for photographic film disposed to simultaneously record the object and reference waves as a hologram and switching devices which are activated by a transmitter device sensing cardiac activity for double pulse switching of the source at predetermined intervals so that the two separate holograms of the body surface are recorded with each hologram being at a different time interval of the movement of the body. The present invention enables the two holograms which are recorded on the film to be recorded at given points in a cardiac activity of the patient such as given points of the EKG cycle of the patient.

  • Patent number: 4100798
Abstract: A flow meter particularly for receiving respiratory flows for pulmonary function diagnoses has a perforated piezo-ceramic flow resistance element and transducer in a flow tube for providing a highly-sensitive flow measurement with little resistance to the flow. Electric contact plates abut opposite planar faces of the piezo-ceramic material plate and are spaced apart at the periphery of the piezo-ceramic plate by an insulating disk. Frame members carry the piezo-ceramic plate and electric contact plates and are spaced and protected within a housing of the flow meter by soft, floating seal members. Contact lugs connected to the electric contact plates conduct signals from the meter which are a function of the bending of the piezo-ceramic material plate under the differential flow pressures on an upstream and a downstream side of the piezo-ceramic plate.
