  • Publication number: 20170152075
Abstract: Embodiments herein relates to a Bisphenol A-free multi-layer, such as a biaxially oriented polyester (BOPET) film, for lamination on metal sheets, which could be used for food containers. The BOPET film has an outer release layer, which aids in the release of food, such as a high protein food source, when food is cooked and sterilized in direct contact with the outer release layer. The BOPET film can be laminated to metals used in the manufacture of food containers with the outer release layer being exposed to allow a direct food contact between the surface of the outer release layer and food. More particularly, the invention relates to a novel outer release layer resin composition comprising an ultra high molecular weight siloxane polymer and a polyethylene trephthalate resin.

  • Patent number: 9492962
Abstract: Described are metallized biaxially oriented polylactic acid (BOPLA) films with a novel formulation that exhibits a softer feel and quieter sound, without jeopardizing film making stability. It has been found that when these films are metallized, moisture barrier properties are surprisingly improved compared to conventional metallized BOPLA films. Specifically, the moisture barrier of the films may be 2.0 g/m2/day or less at 38° C. and 90% relative humidity. The films can be used, for example, in packaging applications. The films have characteristics that are beneficial to converting processes, are economical, and maintain bio-compostability similar to typical BOPLA films.

  • Publication number: 20160167347
Abstract: Described are heat sealable and metallized multi-layer biaxially oriented polypropylene films and methods of making these films. The films and methods include a novel sealant composition having a polymeric coupling agent, which is used to form strong chemical linkages between anti-blocking agent (ABA) particles and the polymer matrix. The polymeric coupling agents enhance the nucleating efficiency of ABA particles and co-crystallize with polymer chain segments surrounding the ABA particles. Polymeric films with coextruded sealant layers can be made with improved morphology, thermal behavior, and dynamic rheological properties which can be easily released without sticking to cooling or casting drums at high film-making production speeds.

  • Publication number: 20140017489
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a multilayer film having, as its main component, a hydroxy acid polymer with improved gas barrier and optional heat sealability. The oriented film of predominately hydroxy acid polymer having controlled shrink can be produced by melting and coextruding a hydroxy acid polymer with a much thinner layer of an amorphous aromatic copolyester to form a multilayer film that is quench cooled, then biaxially stretched at a process temperature above the glass transition and below the cold crystallization temperature of the hydroxy acid polymer. A heat-setting treatment with a controlled relaxation of the film above the hydroxy acid polymer glass transition temperature and below its melt temperature may be used to control shrinkage. The films thus obtained are vacuum metallized on the aromatic copolyester surface to produce environmentally friendly packaging from predominately renewable resources having improved gas barrier properties.
