  • Publication number: 20150192108
Abstract: A device for reducing the internal pressure between the turbine blades of a transverse axis or fluid-flow-aligned axis, power-producing turbine, such as a wind turbine, by exhausting fluid out the top or bottom of the unit using a mechanical fan or pump. A moving fluid, such as air, can be forced through a conduit, as in FIG. 1 within the Tower 108, by a mechanical fan 102, for further processing to remove valuable constituents, such as carbon dioxide for use in zero-carbon fuel production, or rare gas harvesting. As there is a necessary energy cost for moving the fluid in such applications, the device improves the overall efficiency. This has the effect of increasing the power conversion efficiency past the Betz' Limit for turbines that harvest renewable energy and collect chemical constituents of air.

  • Publication number: 20140312848
Abstract: An energy management system for monitoring and communicating characteristics of an intelligent energy storage device is disclosed. The energy management system includes at least one pack comprising one or more batteries in an energy storage device and the components to manage and wirelessly communicate the state characteristics of those batteries. The energy storage device is connected to a Local Pack Controller (LPC) which is configured to detect a connection to a host system and automatically establish a secure wireless connection to the Host System Controller (HSC). The LPC monitors the pack state and sends the state information wirelessly to the HSC, which then broadcasts the information wirelessly to a display and/or external network. Applications include, but are not limited to, integration in a vehicle, residential, industrial, or commercial market.

  • Publication number: 20140271420
Abstract: The present invention provides a novel system and method for collecting CO2 and H2O from ambient air, using the power of a blower forcing air or another gas through a Reverse Venturi device (also called a divergent-convergent duct), to decrease the velocity of the air over a carbon capture device, and thereby increase the pressure of the unit, which results in raising of the dew point and the subsequent condensation of water in the air. This reduces the sorbent that is absorbed by the passing air stream, and increases the uptake of water vapor when a sorbent is used that attracts water.

  • Publication number: 20140244438
Abstract: The present application provides improved eyeglass frames for enhanced comfort, personalization, and aesthetics. The eyeglass frames comprise temples that are proximal to a lens supporting element and temples that are distal to the lens supporting element. The proximal and distal temples form an angle that appears as an upside down “V.” In some embodiments, the frame material is rigid and the angles are fixed. In other embodiments, the frames articulate or pivot in one or more of three locations: between the proximal temple and the frame, between the proximal and distal temples, and between the distal temple and the ear rest. In other embodiments, the frames further comprise attachment elements for attaching ornaments or functional devices.

  • Patent number: 8589900
Abstract: A code region forming part of a computer program is modified during execution of the computer program by a plurality of threads. In one aspect, identical modification instructions are provided to each thread for modifying a site in the code region having a desirable idempotent atomic modification, and the modification instructions direct each thread to make the desirable idempotent atomic modification. In another aspect, a thread is selected to modify the code region, each thread other than the selected thread is directed to execute an alternative execution path that generates output identical to the output of the code region after the code region has been modified, and, responsive to directing each thread other than the selected thread, the selected thread is directed to modify the code region.

  • Patent number: 8340340
Abstract: A loudspeaker driver has a diaphragm connected to a surrounding frame by a roll suspension which extends around the diaphragm and within the frame. The roll suspension connects the outer edge of the diaphragm to the inner edge of the frame and flexes as the diaphragm is displaced to and fro axially relative to the frame. In order to provide for better integrity of the roll suspension during its displacement, and reduce unwanted deformation and concomitant distortion, the suspension roll is provided with pleats extending across the roll suspension transversely to the direction of axial movement of the diaphragm to create a series of undulations (peaks and troughs) around the perimeter of the roll suspension. In transverse cross-section, the roll suspension is parabolic. The roll suspension varies continuously between each peak and adjacent trough.

  • Publication number: 20120300526
Abstract: A power adapter apparatus comprises an AC power input adapted to receive AC power, an AC-to-DC converter, a switch, a timer, and a casing at least partially enclosing the AC-to-DC converter, the switch and the timer. The AC-to-DC converter is configured to convert the AC power to DC power. The switch is operable to connect the AC power input with the AC-to-DC converter, and to disconnect the AC power input from the AC-to-DC converter. The timer is operable to preset a desirable time at which the switch turns off to disconnect the AC power input from the AC-to-DC converter.

  • Patent number: 8312439
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer instructions are provided for inlining native functions into compiled Java code. A conversion engine is provided by the present invention for converting the intermediate representation of native functions to the just-in-time (JIT) compiler's intermediate representation. With the converted intermediate representation, an inliner recursively inlines the converted JIT compiler's intermediate representation into the native callsite to remove the need of invoking the native function and subsequent native calls made by the function. The inlining process continues until either a call to an opaque function is encountered or until a JIT compiler intermediate representation growth limits are reached. The inliner also replaces calls to most native functions that are non-inlineable or opaque with calls to synthesized native functions that provide access to native libraries containing implementations of the original non-inlineable calls.

  • Patent number: 8276134
Abstract: An improved system and computer programming product for acquisition and release of locks within a software program is disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, a lock within a loop is transformed by relocating acquisition and release instructions from within the loop to positions outside the loop. This may significantly decrease unnecessarily lock acquisition and release during execution of the software program. In order to avoid contention problems which may arise from acquiring and keeping a lock on an object over a relatively long period of time, a contention test may be inserted into the loop. Such a contention test may temporarily release the lock if another thread in the software program requires access to the locked object.

  • Patent number: 7913240
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer instructions for transforming JAVA Native Interface function calls to constants, internal just-in-time (JIT) compiler operations or simpler intermediate representation. A compiler generates plurality of intermediate representations for a plurality of native interface function calls. During inlining of native code, matching is performed on each native function call (against this list) and a list of native interface function calls is generated. For each native interface function call, a (JIT) call transformer attempts to replace the native interface function call with a constant, internal JIT compiler operation or a simpler intermediate representation depending on the type of native interface function call.

  • Patent number: 7770163
Abstract: Synchronizing clones of a software method to be executed by at least one thread while the software method is compiled. The software method is cloned to generate a software method clone. At least one transition is created between equivalent program points in the software method and the software method clone. A lock object is inserted into one of the software method and the software method clone. Then, code that controls the at least one transition between a profiling clone and a non-profiling clone is changed to access thread-local storage. The non-profiling clone is the one of the software method and the software method clone into which the lock object was inserted. A first synchronization operation is performed at or after an entry point of the non-profiling clone. Then, the profiling clone is executed using thread-local storage.
