  • Publication number: 20140196802
Abstract: An apparatus and method for a fluid leak detection and shutdown for a fluid distribution system having a total system flow rate. The apparatus includes a solenoid shutoff valve having a normally open state and an activated closed state with a flow capacity matched to the total fluid distribution system flow rate. The apparatus also has a primary fluid flow line and a smaller capacity secondary fluid flow line. The apparatus includes a flow sensor in fluid communication with the secondary fluid flow line, wherein the flow sensor has a perceptible output and a flow rate capacity less than the solenoid shutoff flow capacity. Operationally, the flow sensor receives a portion of the solenoid shutoff valve flow capacity in priority over the primary fluid flow line, allowing the flow sensor to detect minimal flow rates and using the perceptible output to activate the solenoid shutoff valve into the closed state.

  • Publication number: 20120313612
Abstract: A self-optimizing energy harvester comprises a thermoelectric generator coupling to a thermal source, producing a source voltage greater than a minimum start-up voltage, where the thermoelectric generator drives a boost circuit and a feedforward circuit, delivering power to a load. A conventional boost circuit has a maximum output power only at the input voltage for which a fixed set point resistor is chosen. The feedforward circuit dynamically optimizes the boost circuit according to a dynamic set point resistance, thus increasing output power for a wide range of input voltages, relative to using a fixed reference resistor. The dynamic set point resistance is the sum of a variable resistance and a reference resistance. A sample element forms a differential voltage between the source and input voltage elements, and the variable resistance corresponds to the differential voltage. A reference resistor is chosen to establish the minimum start-up voltage.

  • Publication number: 20110204112
Abstract: Embodiments hereof relate to an electronic device carrying case that selectively alternates between a display configuration that displays a portable electronic device such as a GPS receiver below the dash level of a vehicle and a transport configuration that wraps around the electronic device. The carrying case includes a storage compartment for removably receiving the electronic device and a relatively planar panel having a first end coupled to the storage compartment and a weighted second end. In the display configuration, the weighted second end lies flat against the dash of a vehicle to secure the carrying case thereto, and the panel is sufficiently long such that the electronic device is displayed below the dash level. In the transport configuration, the panel wraps around and encircles the electronic device.
