  • Publication number: 20210356150
Abstract: A HVAC air treatment (HAT) system/method for use in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems that incorporates an air flow sensor (AFS), timer control unit (TCU), ultraviolet lamp(s) (UVL), lamp feedback indicator (LFI), liquid distribution atomizer (LDA), leak exhaust fan (LEF), and digital control processor (DCP) is disclosed. The AFS indicates detection of air flow within the HVAC ducts (HVD) to the DCP and may wirelessly communicate with the DCP. The DCP interrogates the TCU to determine when HAT is to occur if HVD air flow is detected and activates the UVL to disinfect air within the HVD. The LFI provides feedback to the DCP to verify that the UVL is operational. The UVL may be positioned at the fresh air intake (FAI), air intake plenum (AIP), evaporator/heat exchanger (HEX), and/or air exhaust plenum (AEP) and may incorporate an adjustable magnetic frame (AMF) allowing UVL retrofit installation.

  • Patent number: 9870373
Abstract: A daisy-chain storage synchronization (DSS) system and method that permits a daisy-chain of interconnected pass-thru disk drive controllers (PTDDCs) each connected to a SATA local disk drive (LDD) disk storage element (DSE) to support state synchronization within PTDDCs in the daisy-chain is disclosed. The PTDDCs within the daisy-chain are configured to individually maintain drive state information (DSI) relating to the LDD as well as chain state information (CSI) relating to the individual PTDDCs within the daisy-chain. This state information may be modified on receipt of out-of-band signaling (OBS) from other PTDDC elements up the daisy-chain as well as OBS from other PTDDC elements down the daisy-chain. CSI is determined in part by conventional SATA OBS state register protocols that are modified by internal state registers (ISR) in each individual PTDDC daisy-chain element so as to make the DSS transparent to existing SATA OBS single-disk standard hardware command protocols.

  • Patent number: 9652343
Abstract: A RAID (redundant array of independent disks) hot spare (RHS) system and method that permits a daisy-chain of interconnected pass-thru disk drive controllers (PTDDCs) each connected to a SATA local disk drive (LDD) storage element (DSE) to support a hot spare disk (HSD) such that a failing disk drive (FDD) in the RAID array can be immediately replaced by a HSD within the PTDDC daisy-chain without operator intervention is disclosed. The PTDDCs within the daisy-chain are configured in RAID fashion to support mirroring of one or more drives in the PTDDC daisy-chain. The PTDDCs monitor functional status of LDDs attached to each PTDDC. FDD failure triggers activation of a HSD in the PTDDC daisy-chain and automatic mirror copying along the PTDDC daisy-chain of RAID data from a master disk drive (MDD) mirrored to the LDD. FDD-PTDDC and HSD-PTDDC LBA mapping registers are updated after mirror copying completes.

  • Patent number: 9460110
Abstract: A file system extension (FSE) system and method that permits an on-disk-structure (ODS) incorporating spatially diverse data (SDD) to be stored on a daisy-chain of multiple SATA disk drive storage elements (DSE) that are coupled together with one or more pass-thru disk drive controllers (PTDDC) is disclosed. The PTDDC chain appears as a single logical disk drive to a host computer system (HCS) via a host bus adapter (HBA) or pass-thru input (PTI) port. The PTDDC chain may appear to the HCS as virtual disk storage (VDS) that is larger than the actual physical disk storage (PDS) contained within the DSEs. The PTDDC chain is configured to map the SDD to portions of the DSE that are actually present within the VDS and thus allow critical portions of the ODS to reside on the PTDDC chain with transparent access by an operating system running on the HCS.

  • Patent number: 9235547
Abstract: A messaging system and method with dead man switching providing for hierarchical delivery of messages based on selected message hierarchy levels with controlled delivery/response timing is disclosed. The system and method incorporates a messaging host that communicates with a messaging source client that creates and prioritizes a message and targets address(es) for the message. This message is then transmitted to the target address(es) using a hierarchical transmission thread having set limits on response times for each address within the thread. Reception of the message by each target(s) produces visual and/or auditory notification at the target(s). Messages are automatically forwarded to remaining target(s) within the thread upon expiration of a timer should the target(s) fail to respond to the message within a predetermined time. Failure of the target(s) to respond to the message(s) is reported bi-directionally along the thread and forwarded to remaining target(s) in the thread.

  • Patent number: 9164946
Abstract: A data storage RAID architecture system and method that daisy-chains multiple SATA disk drive storage elements to allow a single host bus adapter (HBA) to view the daisy-chain as one logical SATA disk drive is disclosed. The system/method may be broadly described as comprising a pass-thru disk drive controller (PTDDC) further comprising a pass-thru input (PTI) port, disk drive interface (DDI) port, and pass-thru output (PTO) port. The PTDDC intercepts and translates PTI port input to the requirements of a SATA disk drive connected to the DDI. Each PTDDC may be daisy-chained to other PTDDCs to permit a plethora of SATA drives to be associated with a given HBA, with the first PTDDC providing a presentation interface to the HBA integrating all SATA disk drive storage connected to the PTDDCs. Rack mounting of PTDDC-enabled SATA disk drives enables creation of inexpensive dynamically expandable petabyte-class RAID storage arrays.

  • Patent number: 9080529
Abstract: A fuel management system and method that permits accurate accounting of fuel consumption within the context of a fuel consuming system is disclosed. The system/method may be broadly described as comprising a fuel level sensor, fuel level sensor transponder, fuel accounting system, and optional regulated fuel dispenser. The fuel level sensor accurately determines the contents of a fuel tank. This information is reported via fuel sensor transponder to a fuel accounting system that tracks the fuel consumption of the fuel consuming system and provides billing information based on the detected fuel consumption. This accounting information may be utilized within an optional regulated fuel dispenser to refill/unfill the fuel tank to an accurately predetermined fuel level for the next fuel management accounting cycle. The present invention has many applications, including but not limited to management of rental/lease vehicles, transportation fuel surcharges, leased vehicle fleet returns, and/or fuel arbitrage.
