  • Patent number: 8799523
Abstract: A data storage architecture extension (DAX) system and method that permits multiple disk drive storage elements to be logically daisy-chained to allow a single host bus adapter (HBA) to view the storage elements as one logical disk drive is disclosed. The system/method may be broadly described as comprising a pass-thru disk drive controller (PTDDC) further comprising a HBA port, a disk drive interface port, pass-thru input port, and a pass-thru output port. The PTDDC intercepts and translates the HBA port input to the requirements of an individual disk drive connected to the drive interface port. Each PTDDC may be daisy-chained to other PTDDCs to permit a plethora of disk drives to be associated with a given HBA, with the first PTDDC providing a presentation interface to the HBA integrating all disk drive storage connected to the PTDDCs. The system/method also permits RAID configuration of disk drives using one or more PTDDCs.

  • Patent number: 8538591
Abstract: A fuel management system and method that permits accurate accounting of fuel consumption within the context of a fuel consuming system is disclosed. The system/method may be broadly described as comprising a fuel level sensor, fuel level sensor transponder, fuel accounting system, and optional regulated fuel dispenser. The fuel level sensor accurately determines the contents of a fuel tank. This information is reported via fuel sensor transponder to a fuel accounting system that tracks the fuel consumption of the fuel consuming system and provides billing information based on the detected fuel consumption. This accounting information may be utilized within an optional regulated fuel dispenser to refill the fuel tank to an accurately predetermined fuel level for the next fuel management accounting cycle. While the present invention has many applications, one preferred embodiment targets fuel management within the context of rental/lease vehicles and the like.

  • Publication number: 20100327544
Abstract: A cylinder cart system that incorporates a stabilizing platform for safely loading and offloading of gas/fluid cylinders from trucks and the like is disclosed. The cylinder cart system incorporates a stabilizing platform to which a tank retention mechanism is attached that permits a gas/fluid cylinder to be retrained and raised/lowered via the use of an integrated elevator mechanism that may be manually or power operated. In the raised position, the cylinder cart provides sufficient stability to permit safe offloading of a gas/fluid cylinder onto a pickup truck or the like by a single person. In the lowered position, the cylinder cart incorporates hand truck functionality to permit transport of the gas/fluid cylinder across rugged terrain. An optional integrated safety braking system may in some embodiments provide additional stabilization of the system when the cylinder cart is in the raised position.

  • Patent number: 6847295
Abstract: An anti-abduction system and method is disclosed which utilizes a radio frequency transceiver attached to a slave to communicate with a corresponding master transceiver to detect and prevent abductions, which may be advantageously applied to situations in which child abduction is a possibility. The disclosed system and method utilizes communication protocols to notify the master of the proximal locality of the slave unit and any spatial deviation of the slave from the master. Utilization of varying strength transceiver signaling between the master and slave permits the distance between the master and slave to be approximated. Additionally, the slave may contain an optional heartbeat monitor to detect and report situations in which the device is removed from the potential abduction victim.

  • Publication number: 20030187853
Abstract: A distributed data storage system and method comprising a highly integrated mass storage controller system permitting distributed management and control of data storage is disclosed. The present invention in some preferred embodiments permits mass storage media to be made available on a network in a fashion to permit global access, while automatically handling many high-level file access and data integrity/security/control functions normally associated with a host operating system. This integration and redistribution of functionality permits spatial diversification of data resources, automatic mirroring of data, fault isolation, data security, and a plethora of other control functions to be integrated into the mass storage device. This integration permits peer-to-peer communication between mass storage devices to both unburden the host data consumers but also isolate the data management functions from the data presentation functions normally associated with host systems.

  • Patent number: 6396137
Abstract: An integrated voltage/current/power regulator/switch (VCPRS) system and method are disclosed in which regulator/switch circuitry is vertically integrated on top of an existing integrated circuit. The present invention does not require additional integrated circuit chip area for the regulator pass device as is required in the prior art, and by virtue of its construction provides a significantly reduced on-resistance as compared to all prior art implementations. The present invention both stabilizes the power supply for large area integrated circuits and permits individual areas of the integrated circuit to have switched power capability, a highly desirable feature in low power and battery power applications.

  • Patent number: 5798669
Abstract: An integrated voltage/current reference having substantially reduced temperature and voltage coefficient with simultaneous nanowatt power consumption includes a nanopower voltage/current reference topology having a substantial temperature coefficient and minimal voltage coefficient and augmented with a floating voltage proportional to absolute temperature (PTAT) within a feedback loop to compensate for differentials in .beta. exponential temperature dependencies of N-Channel and P-Channel MOS devices used within commonly available semiconductor processes. The resulting reference supplies both voltage as well as current references which have greatly reduced temperature coefficients. In addition, the resulting circuit topology generates a voltage reference which has a parabolic temperature coefficient similar to that produced by a conventional bandgap reference.
