    Abstract: Physical layer devices and related methods for determining Bit Error Rates (BERs) and correcting errors in signals received through shared transmission media of wireless local area networks are disclosed. A physical layer device is configured to identify coding violations in received signal, determine a rate of the coding violations in the signal, and estimate a BER of the signal to be equal to the determined rate of the coding violations. A physical layer device is configured to invert a half symbol immediately preceding or immediately following a coding violation based, at least in part, on signal integrities of the half symbol immediately preceding and the half symbol immediately following the coding violation to correct a bit error.

    Abstract: Systems, device, and methods related to estimating a Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of a signal are disclosed. A method of estimating an SNR includes setting a threshold of a comparator of a physical layer device to a first value, applying a signal to the comparator, and determining a first bit error number of an output of the comparator with the threshold set at the first value. The method also includes setting the threshold of the comparator to a second value that is different from the first value, applying the signal to the comparator, and determining a second bit error number of the output of the comparator with the threshold set at the second value. The method further includes determining an SNR of the signal based on the first bit error number and the second bit error number.

The method may also include, based on the age exceeding a threshold age, determining that the tile of the map is to be updated, and receiving a location indicator from a vehicle. The method may additionally include transmitting an update message to a vehicle traversing a track within the tile as indicated by the location indicator, where the update message includes instructions to cause the vehicle to gather and submit sensor data to a computing system. The method may also include receiving the sensor data from the vehicle, and updating the tile of the map based on the received sensor data.

The method also includes determining an edge sample phase of the plurality of different sample phases that corresponds to edges of the symbols based on the sample values. During a current predetermined time period, a priori knowledge of an RF environment is used to determine a change in the environment in a next predetermined time period. Transmission on an interfering channel in response to the change leads to generation of an indication to another device to switch communications in the next predetermined time period to a new channel that is unaffected by transmission on the interfering channel. The new channel is set by the indication or is negotiated by the other device from a list of channels to use in the indication.
