  • Publication number: 20150305034
Abstract: Various methods and apparatuses are provided to address the need for improved multi-carrier communication. In one apparatus, a radio access network (RAN) (402) includes multiple network nodes (403, 406) operative to transmit, via multiple carriers (411-412), packet data to a user element (UE) (401) using a protocol stack. The protocol stack includes a radio link control (RLC) layer split into an upper RLC processing layer and multiple lower RLC processing layers. Each lower RLC processing layer is associated with one carrier of the multiple carriers and each lower RLC processing layer supports packet data transmission via its associated carrier. The upper RLC processing layer supports packet data transmission via the multiple carriers.

  • Patent number: 8812712
Abstract: Methods for proxy-driven content rate selection for streaming media servers are provided. In one method, one or more maximum transmission rate parameters from a network controller are stored at a proxy server in response to a receiver report message from the client. A target rate for the media session is generated based on the stored maximum transmission rate parameters, and the target rate is transmitted to a media server in a proxy-to-server feedback message. The media server selects the content rate from among a plurality of supported content rates in response to the proxy-to-server feedback message from the proxy server, and streams streaming multimedia frames to the client at the selected content rate.

  • Publication number: 20140029425
Abstract: Various methods and devices are provided to address the need for improved inter-carrier load balancing. In one method, network equipment determines (101) an achievable rate for a plurality of wireless devices on each carrier of a plurality of carriers. • Publication number: 20140029448
Abstract: Various methods and devices are provided to address the need for improved cooperation-based signal processing. In a first method, network equipment determines (801) a set of dominant interferers for a wireless transmission and requests (802) user-plane data corresponding to each dominant interferer in the set of dominant interferers. The network equipment then processes (803) a received signal corresponding to the wireless transmission to extract the information transmitted. This processing uses at least some user-plane data corresponding to at least one dominant interferer in the set of dominant interferers.

  • Patent number: 8626943
Abstract: In a method for dynamically setting a content rate of a multimedia session for a client in a network, a proxy server receives a channel condition feedback message from a network controller and determines whether a receiver report message has been received from the client since a most recent previous channel condition feedback message. The channel condition feedback message includes current channel condition information for the network. The proxy server sends one of an extended feedback report message and a short feedback report message to a media server based on the determining step. The short feedback report message includes at least a maximum transmission rate parameter for the multimedia session. The extended feedback report message includes at least information contained in the receiver report message. The extended feedback report message may, in addition, include the maximum transmission rate parameter for the multimedia session.

  • Patent number: 8614952
Abstract: A method for efficient propagation of link state advertisements in densely interconnected OSPF networks is disclosed for reducing the number of duplicate LSAs propagated during a flooding event. The efficient propagation method includes calculating an LSA propagation subgraph which is used by a node which receives an LSA to determine which links to propagate the LSA upon. This allows a significant reduction in the LSAs which traverse the network during a flooding event. The reduction in LSAs is particularly useful for reducing network convergence times associated with flooding events. In addition, a system is disclosed for performing the method in both a centralized and dispersed manner.

  • Publication number: 20130188608
Abstract: Various methods and network nodes (e.g., base stations or base transceiver nodes) are provided to address the need for enhanced uplink performance. In a first method, a virtual soft handoff network node receives (501), from a serving network node, information related to uplink communications of user equipment (UE) served by the serving network node, wherein a soft handoff is not established between the virtual soft handoff network node and the UE. The virtual soft handoff network node receives (502) uplink communications between the UE and the serving network node and processes (503) the uplink communications to determine decoded uplink data from the UE. In a second method, a serving network node sends (401) to a virtual soft handoff network node, information related to uplink communications of user equipment (UE), the UE being served by the serving network node but not in soft handoff with the virtual soft handoff network node.
