  • Patent number: 7957096
Abstract: In a perpendicular magnetic recording head comprising a main magnetic pole layer and a return yoke layer which are laminated with a magnetic gap layer interposed therebetween, a nonmagnetic throat height determining layer and a return yoke reinforcement layer made of a magnetic material having a saturated magnetic flux density higher than that of the return yoke layer are provided on the magnetic gap layer. The nonmagnetic throat height determining layer has a front end face parallel to the medium-opposing surface at a position retracted by a desirable throat height from the medium-opposing surface. The return yoke reinforcement layer is formed directly under the return yoke layer so as to extend at least from the front end face of the nonmagnetic throat height determining layer to the upper face thereof, and is exposed at the medium-opposing surface between the magnetic gap layer and return yoke layer.

  • Publication number: 20110112807
Abstract: When a manager uses an input device to input the inspected states of the degrees of soundness of a plurality of objects, a data receiving unit receives them as inspection data. A deterioration characteristic calculating unit calculates the average value of the deterioration characteristics of the objects based on data related to the degrees of soundness of the plurality of objects that is received by the data receiving unit. A heterogeneous parameter calculating unit calculates a heterogeneous parameter for each heterogeneous factor that cannot be observed or is difficult to observe, and causes a variation in the deterioration characteristics. A benchmarking unit evaluates the influence of the heterogeneous factors on the deterioration characteristics based on the heterogeneous parameters, and an output unit outputs the evaluation result.

  • Patent number: 7764464
Abstract: A film thickness of second coil layers (second coil pieces) disposed below a main magnetic pole layer (first magnetic layer) is larger than a film thickness of first coil layers (first coil pieces). Hence, while a magnetic path length of magnetic flux flowing through the main magnetic pole layer (first magnetic layer) and a return path layer (second magnetic layer) is decreased by decreasing the film thickness of the first coil layers (first coil pieces) disposed in a space between the main magnetic pole layer (first magnetic layer) and the return path layer (second magnetic layer), series resistance of an entire coil layer can be decreased by increasing the film thickness of the second coil layers (second coil pieces).

A spiral recording coil is disposed between the pair of magnetic layers and wound around a connecting portion of the pair of magnetic layers. The recording coil includes a dense coil portion formed with a pitch smaller than that of the inner part in the height direction so as to be closer to the medium-facing surface than the connecting portion. An organic insulating layer is locally formed to fill coil gaps of the dense coil portion, and coil gaps other than those of the dense coil portion are filled with an inorganic insulating layer.

  • Patent number: 7742259
Abstract: Particularly, there is provided a perpendicular magnetic recording head capable of suppressing PTP and obtaining a stabilized recording ability by improving the shape of the opposed surface of a return yoke layer and a method of manufacturing the same. The shape of the return yoke layer on the opposed surface includes a downside formed linearly parallel to a track width direction (X direction shown in the drawing), a center portion where a protrusion portion having a maximum width T1 larger than a track width Tw by protruding upwardly is formed in a position opposed to a main magnetic pole layer in a film thickness direction (Z direction shown in the drawing), and opposed end portions, having a film thickness smaller than the center portion, that extend on the opposite sides in the track width direction of the center portion. As a result, it is possible to properly obtain both effects such as the improvement of the recording ability and the suppressing of PTP generation.
