  • Publication number: 20040174599
Abstract: The optical system as described achieves retinal display of video images at a viewing angle of approx. 60° by a monochromatic or color mixture of laser beams. Retinal display is either direct or by beaming a scattering screen, whereby the display can be superimposed with an image of a 60° field of view. In video image display a convergent beam of light is focussed on the retina with the aid of a partly transparent planoconcave mirror. The system features an extremely high resolution limited only by the eyesight of the viewer and the diffraction of the display light beam as dictated merely by the divergence and cross-section of the light beam.

  • Publication number: 20020032660
Abstract: A postage meter machine for franking postal matter has a printer for printing a postage value stamp on the postal matter, a control unit for controlling the printing and peripheral components of the postage meter machine, and a security module for debiting postage fee data. In order to prevent manipulations, unauthorized use and unauthorized copying of control software, the control unit is authorized by multiple, automatic interrogations and handovers of a security code from the control unit to the security module. The security module is deactivated given an incorrect security code or the lack of a handover of the security code. Accounting and franking are thus no longer possible in the deactivated condition.

  • Publication number: 20010042054
Abstract: In a postage meter machine for franking postal matter and a method for protecting security functions and/or data in such a postage meter machine against unauthorized access, for repair or maintenance purpose or for loading software updates, it is still sometimes necessary that individual persons be given access to security-relevant functions and/or data such as, for example, the accounting unit or postage fee data. In order to enable this but to simultaneously preclude unauthorized persons, who could then perform manipulations at the postage meter machine, from obtaining such access, a security code that is interrogated for allowing access is encrypted in the security module, the encrypted security code is compared to an encrypted access code stored on a required storage medium, and the access to the security-relevant functions and/or data is enabled given agreement of the encrypted security code with the encrypted access code.

  • Patent number: 5965459
Abstract: A planarizing method involves a first polishing step in which a relatively hard, low compressibility pad removes excess material of a first layer and planarizes the first layer. Deep defects emanating from the polishing surface formed during the first polishing step are then enlarged and filled with a second layer. After filling, and optionally annealing, the second layer is planarized by polishing with a relatively soft and high compressibility pad or by anisotropic etching.

  • Patent number: 5962895
Abstract: SOI Transistor Having a Self-aligned Body Contact An SOI transistor has a self-aligned body contact formed through an extension to the gate, thereby forming the body contact with minimal increase in area and also avoiding the need to tie the source to the body, as in prior art schemes that passed the body contact through the source. The body contact aperture is formed by raising the source and drain to define an initial aperture, depositing a conformal layer that is etched to create aperture-defining sidewalls and etching the contact aperture using these sidewalls to define sidewall support members that support insulating sidewalls to isolate the collection electrode from both the gate and from the source and drain.

  • Patent number: 5790768
Abstract: A postage meter module has a printing unit, a control unit connected to the printing unit, input/output devices connected to the control unit, and memory devices connected to the control unit. A configuration for an internal cost center printout includes a pixel memory having a field and at least one memory area for accounting data into which data are loaded and converted and/or from which data are read out and converted. The conversion is a blockwise orthogonal rotation of the pixel memory field. A device for orthogonal rotation of the pixel memory field permits a block of a print image with accounting data having been electronically rotated by 90.degree. or by 270.degree. in a direction of printing to be temporarily stored in or read out from the at least one memory area of the pixel memory. A print control unit reads out print image data corresponding to the accounting data by blocks from the pixel memory.

  • Patent number: 5646658
Abstract: A modular ink jet printer head has modules each having three spacers at their periphery in order to maintain a constant spacing between the modules. These spacers each have their base secured to the module and reside perpendicularly on a reference plane. The spacers of a module are brought into a detent engagement with at least those of one further, adjoining module. A base plate and two legs arranged at two first sides of the base plate form a U-shaped module carrier. Fastening elements for the modules are arranged at both second sides of the base plate and adjustment means are arranged at the legs. Offset stop edges for all modules are worked onto a side thereof parallel to one of the second sides of the base plate in the common opening of the base plates for the front edges of all modules. The reference edge of each module is brought into a detent engagement with an allocated stop edge of the base plate, so that a defined, lateral offset occurs between the modules.
