  • Patent number: 6652689
Abstract: A process for ultrasound treatment of a strip of material and a device for implementing such a process. A strip of material passes through a treatment gap, which is formed by a roller device that includes a rotating roller body and a sonotrode that is directed approximately radially against the working surface of the roller body. In order to at least extensively prevent any concentricity defect of the roller body that might result from bending of the roller body, the roller body is cooled directly below the working surface of the roller body. For this purpose, the roller body has a number of lengthwise bores distributed uniformly over the circumference, preferably on an arc, through which a cooling medium flows in essentially uniform manner.

  • Patent number: 6592711
Abstract: A device for processing a continuously running material web includes a machine frame with an ultrasonic generator unit with a sonotrode. A counter tool lies opposite the sonotrode, affixed on the machine frame. The material web is passed through the gap between the sonotrode and the counter tool; as a drive activated by a fluid pressure medium, to press the sonotrode that is movably mounted on the machine frame against the counter tool. A damper for damping vibrations of the sonotrode in the contact pressure direction is provided. This damper is connected at one end with the sonotrode, and at its other end to the machine frame so that vibrations excited by the web or by the counter tool are damped to such an extent that they are no longer noticeable in the processing effect.

  • Patent number: 6336803
Abstract: A device for treating a continuously advancing material web with ultrasound includes an ultrasound generator and a sonotrode, rigidly connected with the former in a manner so as to transmit ultrasound. The sonotrode has a face which lies opposite a counter-tool. The material web is passed through the gap. The module composed of the ultrasound generator and the sonotrode is connected with the machine frame via a piezoelectric actuator, by means of which small displacements of the face of the sonotrode relative to the circumference surface of the counter-roller can be balanced out.

  • Patent number: 6045492
Abstract: A roller is provided for a pressure treatment of a web of paper, textile, plastic film, and is composed of a rotary hollow cylinder which can be distinctly deformed under the effect of line forces in the roll nip. The roller includes a non-rotary cross-head which penetrates the rotary hollow cylinder over its length. On the side of the roll nip, hydraulic supporting elements are provided which can be pressed against the inside circumference of the hollow cylinder in the manner of piston/cylinder units. These supporting elements have a length of not more than 20 cm in the longitudinal direction of the cross-head, and are closely arranged next to one another in the longitudinal direction of the cross-head. The supporting elements can be driven independently of one another at least in several groups. A sealing strip is also provided which continues in one piece over several supporting elements.

Abstract: The roller is provided for pressure treatment of a strip of paper, textile, plastic film, sheet metal or similar material. It includes a hollow roller made of a fiber-reinforced synthetic resin material, and a cross-beam which passes through the hollow roller lengthwise. The cross-beam is mounted at its ends, in external supports, so as not to rotate. Hydrostatic support elements are arranged on the cross-beam on the side on which pressure is exerted. The elements can be pressed against the inside circumference of the hollow roller by means of a hydraulic fluid. The support elements have a length not exceeding 20 cm in the longitudinal direction of the hollow roller, follow each other closely in the longitudinal direction of the cross-beam, and can all be controlled independently of one another.

  • Patent number: 5101544
Abstract: A flexure-controllable roll includes a hollow roll, a stationary crosshead extending lengthwise therethrough and hydrostatic support elements arranged in the clearance space between the hollow roll and crosshead. The support elements are formed with contact surfaces for abutting the inner circumference of the hollow roll. Hydrostatic bearing pockets are formed in the contact surfaces. The bearing pockets are supplied with a first pressurized fluid via throttling ports from a cylinder chamber of the support element. An additional feed line, provided in the crosshead, has a movable part that follows the movements of the support element for supplying a second pressurized fluid to the bearing pockets for regulating the temperature of the roll.

  • Patent number: 5033373
Abstract: A process for producing a smooth and glossy surface on a paper web and a calender arrangement for carrying out the process are disclosed. The calender arrangement comprises two sets of rolls through which the paper web is conducted in succession. Each set of rolls comprises a highly heated hard roll and a soft roll. A cooling device arranged upstream of at least one of the nips formed between the roll sets restricts the amount of heat transfer to the inner layers of the paper web and the attendant, undesirable partial plasticization of the inner layers of the web.

  • Patent number: 4962577
Abstract: In a roll having a hollow roll through which a stationary cross piece extends, a bearing housing is provided for a bearing which engages an axial extension of the hollow roll. The extension has a smaller outer diameter than the outer diameter of the hollow roll. The bearing is located in the bearing housing between the outside circumference of the extension and the inside circumference of the bearing housing. The bearing housing has lubricant feed and discharge passages separate from means for hydraulically supporting the hollow roll. The bearing housing has a bore which fits over the end of the cross piece without play thereby forming a support distance.
