  • Patent number: 4955120
Abstract: A hydrostatically supported roll has several hydrostatic support elements supporting the inner circumference of a rotating hollow roll. The hydrostatic elements are supported on the stationary crosshead that extends through the rotating roll to form a clearance space therewith. Each hydrostatic element has support pockets supplied with a first pressurized fluid via choke canals and branch lines connected to a flow-controlled pump delivering a constant volume of first pressurized liquid, regardless of the counterpressure in the support pockets. The first pressurized liquid fed to the support pockets is temperature-controlled. The support pockets are separated from essentially closed pressure chambers, which are supplied with a second pressure-controlled pressurized liquid from separate feedlines for pressing the hydrostatic elements against the inner circumference of the hollow roll to support same. The second pressurized liquid is not communicated to the inner circumference of the hollow roll.

  • Patent number: 4941247
Abstract: A sealing arrangement for a roll having a stationary crosshead extending through a rotating hollow roll, which forms an outer working roll circumference, includes longitudinal seals and transverse end seals disposed against the inside circumference of the hollow roll. The seals form at least one longitudinal chamber in the annular clearance space between the crosshead and hollow roll. The longitudinal chamber may be filled with pressure liquid for supporting the hollow roll. Each transverse end seal has a relief chamber formed by a recess in the side of the transverse end seal facing away from the longitudinal chamber and a shoulder of a circumferential slot in the crosshead in which the transverse end seal is disposed. A pressure chamber is formed between the bottom of the circumferential slot and the bottom side of the transverse end seal. Both chambers are in fluid communication with the longitudinal chamber.

  • Patent number: 4751775
Abstract: A roll (20) comprises a rotating hollow roll (1) and a stationary crosspiece (5) which extends through the hollow roll (1) lengthwise and the ends of which protrude from the hollow roll (1) and are supported there. The crosspiece (5) comprises a support shoe (10) which is closed against a supporting part (6) of the crosspiece (5) except for feedlines, which is held at the crosspiece (5) in the circumferential direction but is movably guided in the action plane (9) of the roll (20) against the inside circumference (4) of the hollow roll (1) and can be pressed against the inside circumference (4) of the hollow roll (1) under the pressure of the pressure liquid. On the side facing the inside circumference (4) of the hollow roll (1), the support shoe (10) carries longitudinal seals (7) and guiding surfaces (12) which divide off a longitudinal chamber (8) for receiving pressure liquid generating the line pressure, and leakage chambers (15) for receiving leakage liquid.

  • Patent number: 4392288
Abstract: In a device for acting on webs of material which includes at least one roll, which comprises a revolving hollow cylinder constituting the working roll circumference, a crosshead going through the cylinder with spacing on all sides, and against which the hollow cylinder is braced by means of a fluid pressure medium contained in its interior between the crosshead and the inside of the hollow cylinder in at least one chamber, force members which operate in the action plane of the roll and engage the ends of the crosshead protruding from the hollow cylinder, or corresponding points of a counter roll, and a control for holding the forces exerted by the fluid pressure medium on the one hand and by the force members on the other hand substantially in equilibrium, force measuring cells are inserted between the force members and the ends of the crosshead or the corresponding points of a counter roll, respectively, which cells substantially transmit the entire exerted force, and means provided for feeding the signal of
