  • Patent number: 5339500
Abstract: A holding clamp for connecting together two sheets of material, at least one of which is susceptible to expansion. The clamp has a thread leg having a thread portion for receipt of a threaded member and a pair of clamping legs integrally joined at one end to form a C-shaped structure adapted to receive therebetween a sheet of expandable material, the thread leg being connected to an opposite end of one of the legs of the clamp. Each clamping leg has a through hole in line with the thread portion of the thread leg through which can pass the threaded member and an annular flange around each through hole that extends inwardly from the inner surface of each clamping leg that faces the other clamping leg and toward said other leg, the flanges abutting each other when the two clamping legs are brought together by the threaded member to keep the two legs apart a distance greater than the thickness of the expandable sheet.

  • Patent number: 5300368
Abstract: Highly wear-resistant sliding bearings with good sliding properties are difficult to manufacture by electrochemical deposition of the sliding alloy, because the corresponding electrolyte solutions are unstable. Conventional sliding alloys are also too hard for a run-in period and wear too rapidly when used in accordance with specifications. The new sliding layer is simple to manufacture and has an extremely favorable run-in period. The soft constituent of the sliding layer is present in a concentration which decreases along a concentration gradient perpendicular to the effective surface of the sliding layer as the distance from the effective surface increases. The sliding layer is particularly suitable for use as a lead-tin-copper alloy in a multilayered bearing.

  • Patent number: 5207455
Abstract: A device collects and discharges the splashed water thrown up by a vehicle wheel, and comprises a plurality of collection channels which are disposed side by side and spaced apart. The channels are held on the wheel arch of the vehicle in a position facing a tire tread, and collection channel openings, inclined downwards in their longitudinal direction, are each covered over by a respective recessed rebound wall on which a part of the impinging splashed water is thrown back into the associated collection channel. In order to enable greater efficiency of the device in the collection of splashed water to be achieved, the rebound walls associated with the collection channels are each, as viewed in cross-section, in the form of arcuately curved guide vanes, whereby a major part of the impinging splashed water is deflected by return flushing into the collection channel openings.

  • Patent number: 5199742
Abstract: A wheel cover for catching spray water, dirt or the like, which, in its operating position, is located opposite to and at a distance from the tread periphery of the associated wheel and protrudes downwards relative to the level of the vehicle floor and which can be moved upwards into a non-operating position in which it is substantially retracted into the body of the vehicle. No complicated guide is necessary for the changeover of the wheel cover between its operating position and its non-operating position, since it is hinged on the body of the vehicle and can be pivoted to take up the non-operating position under the vehicle floor.

  • Patent number: 5156826
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for the elimination of odoriferous substances in gases or vapors produced by processes for the treatment of organic materials, for instance foodstuffs or luxury foods, in a processing plant. For the elimination of these odoriferous substances the invention proposes that the gases or vapors are supplied to a furnace installation of the processing plant and subjected therein to temperatures of at least 400.degree. C., the heat generated by the furnace installation being directly or indirectly, and at least in part, used for the respective treatment process. According to the invention, an apparatus for performing the method is characterized in that a gas or vapor discharge duct of a vessel used or heating, boiling, roasting, deep-frying, cooking and/or melting of the materials to be processed is connected to the furnace installation by a gas flow duct.

  • Patent number: 5150373
Abstract: The hollow guide is designed as a thin ceramic hollow tube which is guided in an outer tube while leaving a hollow space between the outer tube and the ceramic hollow tube, the outer tube being provided at its proximal end with a connecting part having a gas connection and receiving a focusing optical system. The ceramic hollow tube is guided in the outer tube through at least one mounting part arranged at the proximal end and at least one mounting part at the distal end, which in each case is supported locally with respect to the inner wall of the outer tube. The mounting parts are thus arranged so that free flow cross-sections to conduct the rinsing gas remain in the region of support, these being matched with the internal inner cross-section of the ceramic hollow tube, so that gas flow flowing past the ceramic hollow tube is produced both on the outside and on the inside.

  • Patent number: 5138902
Abstract: A rotary vibration damper for a shaft where the flywheel ring 1 and the hub 2 are connected by first resilient elements 3 uniformly distributed in the circumferential direction, and where second resilient elements 4 of an essentially column-like shape are provided between the first resilient elements 3. The second resilient elements are affixed at one end to the hub 2 and at the other end to the flywheel ring 1. When the rotary vibration damper does not rotate, these elements have a bend 7 in the intermediate zone which protrudes radially inward. This bend 7 can be reduced and eventually eliminated at higher speeds by centrifugal forces, thus causing the spring rigidity to increase.

  • Patent number: 5042298
Abstract: In a filling-level indicator (12), especially for fuel tanks (10) of motor vehicles, flexural waves of the frequency (f) are fed into a sound conductor (11) via a transmitter (13). For the temperature compensation of the zero point of the filling-level indicator (12), the temperature coefficient of the modulus of elasticity (TKE) of the material of the sound conductor (11) will be at least of the order of magnitude of the negative amount of the temperature coefficient of the longitudinal extension (TKL). Furthermore, it has been shown to be especially advantageous to feed the flexural waves at a frequency f.sub.opt .apprxeq.50 kHzmm/d, (d) being the thickness of the sound conductor (11). A temperature compensation of the measuring sensitivity of the sound conductor is possible as a result of this measure. The filling-level indicator thereby supplies relatively accurate measurement values and is virtually independent of temperature influences within a wide temperature range.
