  • Patent number: 5522331
Abstract: A sewing machine carries a sewing needle which in turn carries a thread through a stitching aperture of a throat plate beneath which is located a gripper carried by a gripper shaft. The gripper is defined by a gripper neck, a gripper hook and a gripper knee joining the gripper hook and the gripper neck. Located adjacent the gripper bend is a thread-cutting blade. A cam, link and linkage system is provided for selectively driving the gripper shaft to selectively (a) move the gripper (7) a predetermined distance through which the cutting blade is inoperative and (b) move the gripper a further distance beyond the predetermined distance through which the cutting blade is operative to cut-off the thread. A stop boss is also provided adjacent the gripper bend to prevent the thread from being cut during motion of the gripper the predetermined distance.

  • Patent number: 5325802
Abstract: The invention concerns a sewing machine for a large-surface, frame-clamped material.Sewing machines for large-surface materials 39 clamped in a frame 38, 50 are known, wherein the material 39 is held in place in stationary manner in a sewing-machine structure 1, the sewing head together with the gripper box being displaceable longitudinally and transversely and frame-exchanging equipment being provided. In order to create a sewing machine with a much simplified design for the frame-exchanging equipment, the invention proposes that the frame-exchanging equipment be mounted in the vicinity of the sewing-machine structure 1 and comprise a conveyor of such design that following sewing, the frame 38 with the processed material 39 be forced out of the sewing-machine structure 1 and simultaneously the frame 50 with the material to be processed be pulled-in and be moved into the sewing position, and in that the two frames 38, 50 be moved overlapping one with the other during the exchange.

  • Patent number: 5287820
Abstract: A sewing machine for sewing stationary large surface material (13) includes at least two units (14, 16 and 15, 17) of which includes a sewing head (14, 15) and an associated shuttle box (16, 17) which are displaceably mounted for movement in the first (x) and second (y) directions substantially normal to each other. A common drive mechanism (18, 19, etc.) displaces the unit simultaneously in the first direction (x) while spaced a predetermined distance (D) from each other while an associated disengaging mechanism (35) can controllably disengage one of the units (14, 16 or 15, 17) from the common drive (18, 19, etc.) while the other unit is displaced by the common drive to thereby change the predetermined distance (D) after which the one unit is re-engaged.

  • Patent number: 4748920
Abstract: Difficulties are met with when contour-stitching patterns deposited on two-dimensional elastic fabrics because the originally printed or woven-in pattern is significantly warped already during printing or weaving and then during the clamping of the fabric in a clamping frame because of the fabric's elasticity. To make possible automatic contour-stitching, the invention proposes to feed the theroretical dimensional data of the pattern contours together with at least a few prominent sites into a memory of an electronic control for the automatic stitching machine and the actual dimensional data of at least those prominent sites are inputted by means of a computer in such a manner that the theoretical dimensional data are corrected relative to the actual positions of the pattern contours.

  • Patent number: 4630560
Abstract: A device for stabilizing the needle thread loop in the area of the looper in sewing machines and, in particular, in sewing machines having a plurality of needles, is provided wherein a compressed air stream flows substantially transverse to the movement path of the part which contains the needle thread loop. Two compressed air nozzles are provided for each needle which are positioned at the side of the needle facing away from the needle thread loop in such a manner that the compressed air streams meet in the area of the needle thread loop.

  • Patent number: 4597344
Abstract: A sewing machine, particularly a multi-needle sewing machine, includes at least one sewing arrangement which includes a reciprocating needle mounted on a needle holding arrangement and a gripper mounted on a gripper holding arrangement for angular displacement along a displacement plane and operative for engaging a thread delivered by the needle through the material being sewn to a predetermined region beyond the material. As the material is advanced, especially transversely of the displacement plane, during the sewing stroke of the needle, it acts on the needle and deviates the same from its initial course.
