  • Patent number: 5951715
Abstract: A method for imparting permanent press properties to a textile containing cellulose fibers. The method involves applying an aqueous solution of a polysaccharide aldehyde and/or acetal at a pH of 1 to 8 to a textile, and heating the textile at a sufficient temperature for a sufficient time to react the polysaccharide aldehyde and/or acetal with the textile wherein water is removed from the textile, to impart permanent press properties to the textile. The method of the present invention provides permanent press properties to textiles treated therewith and increases the resistance of such textiles to future laundering abrasion. Such treated textiles display a significant reduction in wrinkles compared with nontreated textiles. Moreover, the treated textiles have a tactile sensation of feeling soft and retain their smoothness after laundering.

  • Patent number: 5421881
Abstract: The present invention provides set retarding additives, set retarded hydraulic cement compositions including such additives and methods of using the cement compositions for cementing zones in wells. The set retarding additives are graft copolymers or terpolymers comprised of the condensation polymer product of a ketone, aldehyde and a compound which introduces acid groups into the polymer having grafted thereto a monomer selected from the group consisting of acrylic acid, vinyl phosphonic acid, methacrylic acid, maleic acid and itaconic acid or one of the foregoing monomers and a second monomer of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid.

  • Patent number: 5421879
Abstract: Cement set retarding additives, set retarded hydraulic cement compositions and methods of using the cement compositions for cementing zones in wells are provided. The set retarding additives are copolymers containing monomer units formed from a first monomer of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and a second monomer of acrylamide or a derivative of acrylamide.

  • Patent number: 5398759
Abstract: Set retarded ultra fine cement compositions which remain pumpable for a predictable period of time at temperatures up to about 400.degree. F. are provided. The compositions are basically comprised of an ultra fine hydraulic cement, sufficient water to form a pumpable slurry and a set retarder comprised of a water soluble aliphatic compound containing at least three carbon atoms and at least one phosphonic acid or phosphonate group.

  • Patent number: 5368642
Abstract: A functionalized polyamine effective to retard the setting rate of a slurry of hydraulic cement is disclosed. A slurry of hydraulic cement in water which includes the functionalized polyamine, which is a polyethylene amine having attached thereto moieties selected from the group consisting of carboxylic acid groups and phosphonic acid groups, is useful to cement a conduit in a subterranean formation penetrated by a wellbore wherein it is desirable to retard the setting rate of the cement to enable placement of the slurry.

  • Patent number: 5358051
Abstract: A method of forming a gel in the subsurface formation is provided whereby a self crosslinking monomer selected from hydroxy unsaturated carbonyl compounds is polymerized in the formation by a suitable initiator. In a preferred embodiment, the initiator is selected from ago compounds which are temperature activated over a range of temperatures.
