Publication number: 20040036728Abstract: An inkjet printing apparatus includes a transportation roller unit and discharging roller units to transport printing media. When printing an image on a front end portion of the printing medium, ink is ejected from a partial number of nozzles of a print head on a side near to the transportation roller unit. When the printing medium is transported by both the transportation roller unit and the discharging roller unit, ink is ejected from all the nozzles of the print head. When printing an image on a rear end portion of the printing medium, ink is ejected from a partial number of nozzles of a print head on a side near to the discharging roller unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2003Publication date: February 26, 2004Applicant: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Koichiro Kawaguchi

Publication number: 20040017459Abstract: A recording apparatus can mount a special recording material, such as a compact disc (CD) or the like, in a state of being accommodated in a tray and perform recording on the special recording material. In this recording apparatus, by an operation of mounting a tray guide into the main body of the recording apparatus, an arm of the tray guide is inserted between a spur base for holding a spur, and a platen for holding sheet discharge rollers. The spur base thereby raises to separate the spur from the sheet discharge roller, and a space to allow passage of the tray is formed.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 17, 2003Publication date: January 29, 2004Applicant: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Koichiro Kawaguchi, Shinji Murata, Masanori Kaneko, Noriyuki Sugiyama, Hiroyuki Saito, Koya Iwakura

Patent number: 6655865Abstract: An area on the printing sheet which can be printed through a single scanning operation of a printing head is divided into a plurality of smaller areas. The printing sheet is transported a distance corresponding to each divided area to print the image using different nozzles of the printing head for each divided area. When a back end portion of the printing sheet is printed, the distance transported is reduced to set inoperative nozzles that are not used for the printing operation. Then, when the printing sheet slips out from the upstream roller pair and it is then detected that the printing sheet is to be transported a distance longer than predetermined amount of rotation of the roller, the inoperative nozzles are used to shift an operative nozzle range depending on the extra amount of rotation. Thus, the extra transportation of the printing sheet is corrected.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2002Date of Patent: December 2, 2003Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Haruyuki Yanagi, Yasuo Miyauchi, Yuji Nakano, Koichiro Kawaguchi, Nobutsune Kobayashi, Hiroyuki Saito, Akira Okamoto

Publication number: 20030063141Abstract: A printing apparatus drive control method is provided which allows the user to select a drive mode in which a printing apparatus can be operated with reduced operation noise whatever print mode is set, such as a fine print mode or a fast print mode, thus eliminating a problem of emitting noisy operation sound to surroundings late at night when a level of noise is comparatively low. One or more of a plurality of motors, which cause a plurality of driven portions in the printing apparatus, such as paper supply unit, main scan unit and paper feed unit, to perform predetermined operations, can be driven in a normal drive mode or a silent drive mode selectively.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 23, 2002Publication date: April 3, 2003Applicant: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Noriyuki Sugiyama, Yuji Nakano, Koichiro Kawaguchi, Hiroyuki Saito

Publication number: 20030030712Abstract: A recording apparatus for recording on a recording sheet by recording means comprises a conveying roller for conveying a recording sheet on the upstream side of recording means in the recording sheet conveying direction, plural discharging rollers for conveying a recording sheet on the downstream side of recording means in the recording sheet conveying direction, and a common driving source for driving the plural discharging rollers. For this recording apparatus the driving force of the driving source is transmitted first to a discharging roller on the outermost downstream side in the recording sheet conveying direction. With the structure thus arranged, this recording apparatus is capable of forming images in good condition on the rear portion of a recording sheet by enhancing the conveyance precision only by use of discharging rollers without any significant cost increase for a recording apparatus provided with plural discharging rollers.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 9, 2002Publication date: February 13, 2003Applicant: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Koichiro Kawaguchi, Noriyuki Sugiyama

Publication number: 20020126192Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a printing apparatus and method which can promptly and properly correct the deviation of an image printed position caused by the behavior of a print sheet transported when its back end slips out from between a pair of rollers during transportation. To attain this object, the present invention includes printing section for performing a printing operation on a print medium and a sheet transporting section comprising a pair of opposite rollers that transport a print medium by rotating while sandwiching the print sheet therebetween. Further, storage section stores positional information representative of the position (nip position) at which an end of a print medium P is sandwiched between the pair of rollers.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 26, 2002Publication date: September 12, 2002Applicant: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Koichiro Kawaguchi, Haruyuki Yanagi

Publication number: 20020114655Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to use a simple configuration to reduce the deviate of an image printed position caused by the behavior of a print sheet when the back end of the sheet slips out from an upstream roller pair. Thus, the present invention provides a printing apparatus including transporting section for transporting a print medium relative to printing heads for printing an image on a print sheet, the apparatus comprising vibrating section for vibrating the transporting section. This vibrating section vibrates the transporting section before the printing heads start a printing operation. Thus, even if the transporting section is stopped at an unstable position when a transporting operation is stopped, the applied vibration brings the transporting section into a stable state sufficiently before a printing operation is started.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 30, 2002Publication date: August 22, 2002Applicant: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Koichiro Kawaguchi, Yuji Nakano, Haruyuki Yanagi, Hiroyuki Saito
