  • Patent number: 8219926
Abstract: Tickers are populated with location-based information that is selected according to the geographic location of communication devices. The location of a communication device is identified based on a GPS system, proximity to transmitters in a wireless network, user input, or using other techniques. Location-appropriate content is obtained either in real-time from the network or from a local data store at the communication device. In general location-based, context-aware content can be displayed on tickers associated with a variety of communication devices, including mobile communication devices and “immobile” or stationary personal computers. When a ticker item is selected from the ticker, a location associated with the selected ticker item and/or a location of the communication device is used to generate a map that is displayed on the display of the device to the user.

  • Patent number: 8185143
Abstract: Systems and methods for selectively replaying voice data. Voice data received in a communication session is both buffered by a server such that the buffered data can be played by a recipient device. When input is received from a recipient, the voice data currently being received is no longer played and buffered voice data is replayed to the recipient. While the buffered voice data is replayed, the server continues to buffer any voice data ensure that the recipient device can play all of the voice data in the communication session. By only storing voice data in the buffer, replaying the buffered voice data can catch the real-time voice data. At this point, the recipient device reverts to playing voice data being received while the server continues to buffer the voice data.

  • Publication number: 20110269429
Abstract: A communication device may participate in telephone calls. The communication device may allow a user to request transcription of a telephone call by prompting the user when the telephone call is completed. The communication device may display a call history user interface and, in response to a selection of a telephone call from the call history user interface, may request transcription of the selected telephone call. The communication device may include a dedicated transcription button that, when pressed, causes audio content of a telephone call to be sent to a transcription service. The communication device may display a preferences user interface via which a user may elect to have all incoming and outgoing telephone calls transcribed, all incoming and outgoing telephone calls to/from selected contacts transcribed, and/or have the communication device prompt the user about transcription when each telephone call is completed.

  • Patent number: 8032118
Abstract: Messages are received at a server and processed to generate data that may include a call back number, envelope information or contact information. Generated data is transmitted to a device that displays a visual notification that includes some of the generated data. The notification may be displayed on the device even if the device is unable to retrieve the message over a data channel. The notification alerts the user that a message is waiting for the user. If the device is subsequently within a data network, the device automatically retrieves the message over a data channel. The device can also establish a voice call with a message server to retrieve the message and can record the message. The device can establish the voice call with the server at a call back number and/or issue a DTMF message request to directly access the message without requiring menu navigation.

  • Publication number: 20110106942
Abstract: Systems, apparatus, and methods for transmitting a data collection profile from a server in connection with a telecommunications network that includes multiple devices. The data collection profile controls which devices should collect data, the condition under which certain data is desired, and when the data is to be returned. The data collection profile is provided to devices which collect data in accordance with the data collection profile. Finally, the collected data is received by a service platform for further processing.

  • Publication number: 20100329434
Abstract: Managing voice messages across multiple voicemail systems. A server acts as a gateway and interacts with multiple voicemail systems and with multiple user devices. The server can retrieve voice messages from one voicemail system and transmit the retrieved voice messages to another separate voicemail system without user assistance. The voice messages are transcoded as necessary. The server also enables a recipient to generate a reply voice message that can be delivered to the original sender's device or delivered to the sender in another manner, such as a Vnote, SMS or an email.

  • Patent number: 7814143
Abstract: A system and method applied to a communications network which transmits document portions in which an original document portion having an identifier portion and an information portion is replaced or swapped with a substitute null document portion. The reads the identifier portion of the original document portion, determines the information portion of the original document portion, and issue a swap order when an undesired original document portion is found. A modified document is created by inserting the substitute null document portion in place of the undesired portion and the modified document is passed on to the user set and displayed. Also, the system performs detection and replacement of undesired content in emails, such as junk mail, viruses and confidential material.

  • Publication number: 20090286515
Abstract: A unified messaging interface and associated methods may enable mobile communication device users to initiate the creation of a message for a recipient without being required to explicitly specify the type of message that is to be created. The mobile communication device supports multiple message types, such as audio, text/SMS, picture and video messages. The user begins providing message content to the communication device by, for example, speaking, entering text, clicking a shutter of a camera or initiating the recording of video. The unified messaging interface detects the nature of the content and automatically creates a corresponding message type. Alternately, the device may create a reply message type depending on the reply address of the original message, and may transcribe the audio to text if the original message uses a text format.

  • Patent number: 7609650
Abstract: Systems and methods for defining and using a data collection profile in connection with a telecommunications network that includes multiple devices. Initially, a query is defined that concerns one or more aspects of the communications network. The query is then used as a basis for building a data collection profile. Next, a set of target devices is selected based upon criteria relating to the query. The data collection profile is then provided to the target devices which collect data in accordance with the data collection profile. Finally, the collected data is transmitted to a service platform for further processing.
