    Abstract: A card edge connector that is robust under various operating conditions of a system in which the connector is used. The connector has a housing holding terminals. The housing has a slot extending from a body to a tower disposed at an end of the body. The tower has an outer chamber and an inner chamber joining the out chamber and the slot. The outer and inner chambers comprising joined side walls. The side walls of the inner chamber are thicker than that of the outer chamber. A latch is pivotably disposed in the tower between a locked position and an unlocked position for retaining and releasing an electronic card inserted in the slot. The latch has a body and protrusions protruding from the body toward the slot. The latch body engages the side walls of the outer chamber. The protrusions engage the side walls of the inner chamber.

Each conductive element has a mating end curving into the slot, and a mounting end extending out of the mounting surface at an angle to the vertical direction. The mounting end has a contact surface configured to make contact with a contact pad on the board. The housing includes holes aligned with holes of the board such that a connecting member can extend through the aligned holes to secure the housing to the board and provide force for sufficient contact between conductive elements and respective contact pads.

Each tower has a slot elongated vertically, and is narrower than the body in a transverse direction. The longitudinal slot and the vertical slots are configured to receive edges of an electronic card. The connector has a pair of reinforcing members. Each reinforcing member is at least partially disposed on a tower and configured to support a joint between the tower and the body of the housing. Such a configuration can increase robustness of the connector at the joints and therefore reduce the risks of deforming or cracking the towers when the connector is impacted by an external force.

    Abstract: High-density, high-speed electrical connectors and system thereof are provided. A connector can include a corrugated shield. The shield includes first portions forming recesses where one or more signal terminals can be disposed, and second portions connecting adjacent first portions. The second portions include beams configured for contacting complementary beams of a mating connector. Both the signal terminals and the beams of the shield are configured for two contact points. The shields are configured such that the shields of two mating connectors form enclosures around the mating contact portions (e.g., both of the two contact points). Power conductors, including power terminals and one or more pairs of power pin and power receptacle, can be symmetrically disposed. This configuration allows connectors with identical mating interfaces to reliably mate with each other, thereby enabling simplified and flexible system architecture while supporting high-speed operation, such as data rates of 224 Gbps and beyond.

The connector comprises a housing having a slot elongated in a longitudinal direction and a pair of towers disposed on opposite ends of the housing and extending in a vertical direction. A pair of latches are disposed in the towers, respectively. Each latch has a groove disposed above the respective tower for receiving a flange of a card inserted in the slot. Each latch has a clip disposed in its groove for engaging the flange of the card. The clips are configured to restrain movement of the card in the longitudinal direction, the vertical direction, and a transverse direction perpendicular to the longitudinal and vertical directions when the latches are in locked positions. Such a configuration enables more reliable connections and improves the connector's shock resistance while being compatible with cards having a variety of thicknesses.

The projection is disposed on the lower body. The latch further includes a protrusion extending between the projection and the upper body. Such a configuration restricts the latches from moving in the housing and therefore improves the reliability of the connector.

    Abstract: A connector for high density, high speed, and high performance electronic systems. The connector has terminals held in a housing. Each terminal has a mating end, a mounting end, and an intermediate portion inbetween. A pair of cuts are disposed on opposite sides of the mounting end such that the mounting end is narrower than the intermediate portion. Each mounting end has a flat surface configured for a solder ball to be attached thereto and narrower than a diameter of the solder ball. This enables the solder ball to be reliably mounted to a contact pad on a circuit board that sized smaller than the solder ball. The contact pad can have a round shape such that a conductive trace can extend in any direction therefrom, which provides flexible routing. Such a configuration meets signal integrity requirements in connectors designed for 64 Gbps and beyond, while conforming to a standard that constrains mating and mounting interfaces.

The connector has a reinforcing members configured to enhance the mechanical strength of the housing.     Abstract: A connector for use with high-speed signals. The connector has a housing, which includes conductive elements held in a row by a housing. Each conductive element includes a thinner portion and a thicker portion. The conductive elements are configured to make contact with a mating component at the thicker portions. The thinner portions are closer to mating ends of respective conductive elements than respective thicker portions. The housing is configured to provide voids selectively disposed underneath the conductive elements. Such a configuration increases impedances for the conductive elements at locations that would otherwise have lower impedance and therefore reduces impedance variations along signal transmission paths. Such a configuration can also reduce stub size and therefore reduce insertion loss. Such a configuration meets signal integrity requirements in connectors designed for 64 Gbps and beyond, while conforming to a standard that constrains mating and mounting interfaces.

    Abstract: Connectors for use with high-speed signals. Mating connectors may include interlocking components that control the mated position of the connectors such that wipe distance can be reduced. These components may be compact such that they can be integrated into connectors with standardized exterior dimensions. They may be integrated into mating guides of the mating connectors. For one of the mating connectors, such a component may be a locking member disposed in and curving out of its guide such that the locking member mates with a matching feature of a component in the guide of the other connector. As the connectors are secured by these components, the conductive elements may be shorter than the lengths required by standards, which reduces the stub and therefore increases signal integrity. Such a configuration provides higher signal integrity at higher speeds, while conforming to standards that constrain mating and mounting interfaces.

An electronic card can be inserted into the slot until an edge of the card is in a seating plane. The connector has a latch pivotally connected to the housing which may be rotated to eject the card. A reinforcing member may be disposed in the latch with a foot extending between the edge of the card and the mounting face such that, when the latch is rotated, the foot may press against the edge of the card to eject the card. The reinforcing member is both mechanically stronger and thermally more conductive than the latch. Such a configuration enables the seating plane to be closer to the mounting face than that required to meet industry standards.
