  • Patent number: 4772943
Abstract: A virtual stereographic display system which includes a display image surface, a polarizer disposed before the display image surface, a liquid crystal cell in which ferroelectric smectic liquid crystal is aligned, and disposed before the polarizer, a driving circuit connected to the liquid crystal cell so as to apply AC voltage synchronized with the frame signal of the image on the display image surface to the liquid crystal cell and to switch over the, polarization axes of the display light proceeding from the display image surface through the polarizer and liquid crystal cell by time division, and polarizing glasses having different polarization axes for the left eye and right eye for viewing the display light.

  • Patent number: 4710768
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device comprising display picture element electrodes connected to switching transistors formed at each crossing of the row and column electrodes of a matrix array with the opposite electrodes being opposite from the display picture element electrodes and across from the interfacing liquid crystal layer. Video signals are inverted into alternating positive/negative polarities for every field and applied to the column electrodes. A specific voltage that inverts its polarity in the same timing as the video signals is applied to the opposite electrodes. The drive method thus embodied by the present invention effectively minimizes the power consumption and allows for compensation of uneven display contrast effects.

  • Patent number: 4705360
Abstract: A liquid crystal display cell using cell substrates of a flexible organic polymer film and containing liquid crystals injected in a space between the cell substrates. Spacers are dispersed between the cell substrates and immobilized by an orienting layer for orienting liquid crystal molecules. A thin glass substrate can be substituted for the flexible organic polymer film. The liquid crystal display cell is produced by a method including the steps of creating a liquid crystal molecule orienting solution having spacers dispersed therein, applying the orienting film solution containing the spacers to the cell substrates, subjecting the applied solution to a curing treatment, sealing liquid crystals in a space formed between the cell substrates in which the interior thickness corresponds to the diameter of the spacers. The spacers are immobilized by the orienting film during the curing step.

  • Patent number: 4694349
Abstract: A driver circuit for a matrix-type liquid crystal display panel capable of displaying pictures having the same number of scan lines as a conventional television set without using a frame memory, by applying the mean value of two video signals matching the 1-H advance and 1-H behind odd (even) numbered scan lines, where the video signal in the odd (even) field correctly matches the even (odd) numbered scan lines.

  • Patent number: 4690510
Abstract: There is disclosed a structure of a matrix display unit having a matrix display panel with mutually perpendicular groups of signal and scaning electrodes and a wiring board mounting thereon a driver circuit having output terminals disposed on two marginal edges of the wiring board. At least one of the marginal edges is bent closely toward the matrix display panel. Terminal electrodes of one of the groups of the matrix electrodes are electrically connected to the bent marginal edge in confronting relation through an electrically conductive anisotropic member, terminal electrodes of the other group of the matrix electrodes are electrically connected to the other marginal edge through a bent electrically conductive anisotropy member or a flexible wiring sheet.

  • Patent number: 4651149
Abstract: An active matrix liquid crystal display is provided with one switching transistor connected to each display element. A separate drive circuit is connected to each column of the matrix, each such drive circuit incorporating a buffer circuit which is constructed of an output transistor and three separate switching elements. The buffer circuit transfers a sample of a data input signals to the respective column while requiring reduced power over conventional drivers.

  • Patent number: 4651148
Abstract: A matrix liquid crystal display device provided with switching transistors, made of amorphous silicon thin-film for example, which are connected to each display picture element. The switching transistors are scanned with a scan pulse having width H which is set at a value greater than that is expressed by T/N, where H denotes the scan pulse width applied to row electrodes connected to each gate of the switching transistor, T denotes the total scan time and N the number of the scan lines. Concretely, the timewise width of the scan pulses is expanded or the number of applicable scan pulses is increased. The preferred embodiments relate to such a liquid crystal display driving system that can effectively minimize the decline of the voltage and the display characteristics caused by insufficient charge against the display picture element electrodes via the switching transistors.

  • Patent number: 4610510
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display cell comprises the steps of providing a first flexible substrate having a first end, providing a second flexible substrate which confronts the first flexible substrate and has an extended second end with respect to the first end of the first flexible substrate so as to form a stepped portion, depositing a sealing material at the stepped portion, depressing one method for the manufacture the first and second substrates against the other one, and cutting the first and second flexible substrates at 68 stepped portion.
