  • Patent number: 5058603
Abstract: A length-measuring device comprises a flexible tube having a first slit and a second slit disposed rearwardly of the first slit, said tube being bendable at each of the first and second slit, and said tube further having a length-measuring portion extending forwardly from the first slit to a distal end of said tube; and means for bending said tube at the first and second slits. Typically, the bending means is a wire which has a connection relation with the length-measuring portion to pull the same. The length-measuring portion is coated with regularly arranged scale marks. After being projected from a forceps channel of an endoscope, the length-measuring portion is pulled to assume a T-shape. The length-measuring portion can be disposed at the center of a field of vision of the endoscope, and also can be easily brought into intimate contact with a target affected part. In a reference color display device, the length-measuring portion is replaced by a distal end portion coated with three primary colors.

  • Patent number: 5044307
Abstract: A curtain coating width changing device in which the width of the backup device at a coating portion can be rapidly changed continuously and smoothly. A backup roller supports a continuously running web. A pair of collar members is provided at respective opposite edge portions of the backup roller and is movable in the axial direction of the backup roller, the collar members lying on an extension of a top portion of the backup roller. A pair of spacers is provided in the spaces between the roller and corresponding ones of the collar members so as to form an extended surface of the top portion of the backup roller and to fill the spaces. Each of the collar members has a spiral end surface, whereby the effective axial length of the extended portion of the top portion of the roller can be adjusted by rotation of the spacers.

  • Patent number: 4729846
Abstract: Lepidocrocite (.gamma.-FeOOH) with an large specific surface area and a uniform particle size is provided by a method comprising preparing a suspension of ferrous hydroxide at a pH of 6.5 to 7.5 by adding a ferrous salt solution with an alkali solution in an amount of 0.4 to 0.7 times the theoretical amount for converting all the ferrous salt to ferrous hydroxide, blowing an oxygen-containing gas into the suspension to form a seed crystal of .gamma.-FeOOH, completing the generation reaction of .gamma.-FeOOH by blowing an oxygen-containing gas into the suspension while adding an alkali solution to keep the pH of the suspension within a range of 3 to 5, in which an Si concentration of the suspensions for seed reaction and for generation reaction of .gamma.-FeOOH is controlled to be within 5 to 30 ppm.

  • Patent number: 4708882
Abstract: In one aspect of the invention, the sample surface is wetted with an aqueous solution of a fluorescent dye followed by rinses with water to remove an excessive amount of the dye so that the background fluorescence emission can be minimized to increase the efficiency of fingerprint detection. In another aspect, the fluorescent dye or a reagent to produce fluorescent substance is deposited on the sample surface by attaching a gelatin film impregnated with a solution thereof followed by peeling. In a further different aspect, a powdery fluorescent dye is deposited on to the sample surface followed by spraying of water after removing an excessive amount of the powdery dye so that the background fluorescence can be minimized. The invention also provides an apparatus for the fingerprint detection by the laser beam excitation of fluorescence, which is compact and portable as being composed of an ingenious combination of several units into an integral system.

  • Patent number: 4671021
Abstract: A grinding tool has diamond superabrasive grains as the abrasive and a bond to retain the abrasive grains. The bond is made of organic polymer or metal and contains as a filler both a solid film-forming lubricant and finely divided diamond superabrasive grains having a grain size smaller than one-third that of the diamond superabrasive grains as the abrasive. The grinding tool of this invention is suitable for grinding a hard cutting material such as cutting tools made of titanium nitride cermet and exhibits outstanding cutting performance and durability.
