    Abstract: This invention provides an automatic tracing algorithm for quantitative analysis of continuous structures, such as the images of tree-like or network-like structures. The algorithm includes the steps of encoding 3-D image voxels by using a source field encoding methodology followed by a defined image threshold, tracing the codelets along encoded voxels such that the characteristic element of a 3-D image such as the center line of fiber, fiber branch, loop, and end point can be determined systematically, and achieving the automatic analysis without manual intervention. In addition, quantitative measurements are exquisitely calculated by the location and distance of these characteristic elements between coded voxels. The algorithm is more suitable to automatically analyze the 2D/3D images of complex neurons, blood vessels, collagens in skin tissue, and fibril morphology in polymeric materials.

    Abstract: A device and a method for driving a light-emitting diode include using multiple current guiding control circuits to drive multiple LED modules. Each of the current guiding control circuits includes at least two transistors connected in parallel to constitute at least two switch circuits. Each of the current guiding control circuits permits or prevents electric current to flow to an immediate downstream one of the LED modules in response to a predetermined voltage level of the positive part of a voltage source. The respective the current guiding control circuits are responsive to different voltage levels. As a result, a maximum number of LED modules are driven to emit light at a given voltage level, thereby achieving the purposes of efficiently utilizing electric power and reducing power loss.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a noise reduction method and apparatus for use in reducing noise of a digital image. The noise reduction apparatus comprises a threshold value generating unit, a determining unit, and an adjusting unit. The threshold value generating unit generates a noise threshold value according to a target window and a first chrominance value and a second chrominance value of an input pixel of the image. The determining unit determines whether the input pixel needs to be adjusted according to the noise threshold value and pixel values of neighboring pixels of the input pixel. The adjusting unit adjusts the pixel value of the input pixel when the input pixel is determined as needing to be adjusted. Using the noise reduction apparatus of the present invention, not only noise of a digital image can be identified, but also the degradation caused by the noise can be reduced and thus the overall picture quality can be improved.
