  • Publication number: 20080203156
Abstract: A system and method for delivering electronic messages automatically to transaction cards. The transaction cards are capable of rendering electronic messages from a server using a transaction activated connection. This system can be used to automatically deliver user specific information such as calendar, reminder, or e-mail information to a person scanning their card in, for example, a building where scanning a badge is required to enter the building. Alternatively, the system can be used to automatically deliver public information to a user such as advertisements to a render-capable transaction card which includes, for example, a calling card, a credit card, or a public transportation access card.

  • Patent number: 7039933
Abstract: A system, method and program product uses tags as markers for incorporating local content in a communications stream, e.g., TV broadcast, cable transmission. A transmitter generates a communication stream including program content for transmission to a receiver. The transmitter includes an authoring tool for generating two types of tags for incorporation into the program content. The receiver captures the program content and stores the tags in tables. One type of tag initiates local action in the program content in the communication stream. A second type of tag is capable of modifying the first type of tag in the tables. When the time for a local action according to a first type of tag is detected, the program content is interrupted by splicing or inserting the local content.

  • Patent number: 6933979
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for sensing the range of objects captured by an image or video camera using active illumination from a computer display. This method can be used to aid in vision based segmentation of objects. In the preferred embodiment of this invention, we compute the difference between two consecutive digital images of a scene captured using a single camera located next to a display, and using the display's brightness as an active source of lighting. For example, the first image could be captured with the display set to a white background, whereas the second image could have the display set to a black background. The display's light reflected back to the camera and, consequently, the two consecutive images' difference, will depend on the intensity of the display illumination, the ambient room light, the reflectivity of objects in the scene, and the distance of these objects from the display and the camera.

  • Patent number: 6925844
Abstract: The present application advantageously provides at least one keyway in a lock core that poses tremendous difficulty for a lock breaker by not allowing the lock breaker to see all of the pin tumblers in the keyway. The keyway according to a preferred embodiment of the present application comprises two helical keyways oppositely extending along a longitudinal axis of the lock core and formed of rectangular cross section. The present application further comprises an accompanying helical key having at least one helical key blade for fitting into the keyway having a corresponding helical shape to turn the core and open the lock.
