  • Publication number: 20060158777
Abstract: A hard disk drive (HDD) having a spindle motor, at least one data storage disk, a disk clamp fastened to the spindle motor and fixing the disk to the spindle motor, and at least one disk spacer mounted on the spindle motor to support the disk. The disk spacer includes a ring-shaped disk spacer body fitted around an outer circumference of the spindle motor with at least one surface contacting the disk, a first groove on the surface of the spacer body contacting the disk, a second groove on the surface of the spacer body contacting the disk to extend along both sides of the first groove, and a damping member between the spacer body and the disk to reduce vibrations of the disk, seated in the first groove in a normal state and compressed by the disk, a portion of which is deformed and accommodated in the second groove.

  • Publication number: 20040061965
Abstract: A hard disk drive with a housing having a base plate and a cover plate. A spindle motor is installed on the base plate. A disk is installed on the spindle motor to store data. An actuator has a magnetic head to record and reproduce data on the disk, is installed on the base plate, and is pivoted by a voice coil motor. A printed circuit board is installed on a bottom surface of the base plate. A through hole, where servo track information is recorded on a recording surface of the disk, is positioned in the base plate, and a hole cover made of a metal plate exhibiting an electric conductivity and covering the through hole, is attached to the bottom surface of the base plate to block an electromagnetic wave generated by the printed circuit board from being transferred to the inside of the housing.

  • Publication number: 20040012882
Abstract: A disk clamp of a hard disk drive to affix a magnetic disk that stores data to a spindle motor of the hard disk drive includes a pressing portion formed along an outer circumference of the disk clamp at an edge portion, to press an upper surface of the disk in a vertical direction, a stress distribution portion formed inside the pressing portion and having a profile with a curved shape bulged upward to distribute stress applied to the disk, and a plurality of screw coupling holes into which screws are inserted to be coupled to an upper end portion of the spindle motor and provided at a predetermined distance in a circumferential direction inside the stress distribution portion. Thus, since the stress applied to the disk is uniformly distributed in the circumferential direction of the disk by the stress distribution portion, flatness of the disk is improved.

  • Patent number: 6651311
Abstract: A disk drive recording device comprises at least two platters for storing magnetic recording data and a spindle motor rotating at high speed for mounting the platters. The disk drive is assembled by using pushing devices to push the platters toward the center of the spindle motor in respective directions to bring a portion of an inside circumference of a concentric center hole of each of the platters in contact with an outer circumference of the spindle motor so that the center of gravity of each platter coincides with a center axis of the spindle motor.

  • Patent number: 5587855
Abstract: The present invention relates to a supporting device for minimizing physical shocks, vibrations and noise of a hard disk drive and more particularly to a hard disk drive in which a supporting device having a damper is installed to protect data recorded on a disk from being lost and to protect the disk or the head from being damaged due to the physical shocks, vibrations and noise. A supporting device for minimizing the physical shocks, vibrations and noise in a hard disk drive having a disk rotating at high speed by the driving of a spindle motor, and a head assembly including an actuator and a magnetic head for writing and reading data recorded in the individual tracks of the disk, and a plate having a substantially same thermal expansion coefficient as that of a base body fixed to the shaft of the spindle motor, a pivot supporting the head assembly, and a damper attached to an upper portion of the plate, for damping the physical shocks, vibrations and noise.
