  • Publication number: 20120221112
Abstract: A metaglene assembly for use in a shoulder prosthesis includes a metaglene body, an augment, a void, at least one fastener hole, and at least one fastener. The metaglene body has a lateral, prosthesis-facing side, and a medial, bone-facing side. The augment extends medially from the medial, bone-facing side of the metaglene body. The void is defined by a portion of the medial, bone-facing side of the metaglene body and a lateral portion of the augment. The fastener hole extends from the void through the augment. The fastener is configured to extend within the fastener hole.

  • Patent number: 8241365
Abstract: A shoulder prosthesis includes a vault-filling component defining a bearing-facing surface and having a first coupling component, the vault-filling component including (i) a vault-filling first portion defining a first part of the bearing-facing surface, and (ii) a projecting second portion projecting from the vault-filling first portion so as to define a second part of the bearing-facing surface. The vault-filling first portion and the projecting second portion define a bone space therebetween. The shoulder prosthesis further includes a bearing component defining a bearing surface and having a second coupling component configured to cooperate with the first coupling component to couple the bearing component to the vault-filling component. At least one bone attachment member positioned in the bone space. The projecting second portion of the vault-filling component further defines a scapula-facing surface.

  • Publication number: 20110282158
Abstract: A spreadable retractor for use in joint arthroplasty. The retractor includes a first arm having a first portion and a second portion that is movably coupled to the first portion. The second portion is also coupled to a first retaining member that is sized and shaped to retain a portion of a coracoid process. A second arm is also included in the retractor and is movably coupled to the first arm. The second arm has a first portion and a second portion that is movably coupled to the first portion. Also, the second portion is coupled to a second retaining member that is sized and shaped to couple to a resected humerus.

  • Publication number: 20110276144
Abstract: A prosthesis assembly configured for use with a scapula in one embodiment includes a spherical humeral component, an elongated glenoid bearing including a first bearing surface with (i) a first spherical end portion with a first radius of curvature, (ii) a second spherical end portion with a second radius of curvature, and (iii) a central portion located between the first spherical end portion and the second spherical end portion, and a first coupling portion extending from a second bearing surface opposite the bearing surface, and a base configured to rotatably support the elongated glenoid bearing, wherein the first radius of curvature is substantially equal to the second radius of curvature and the central portion does not have a radius of curvature that is substantially equal to the second radius of curvature.

  • Publication number: 20100241235
Abstract: An implantation method includes creating a first bore and a second bore in a glenoid region of a scapula so that a first opening defined by the first bore and a second opening defined by the second bore are offset by a first distance. The method further includes providing a glenoid component that includes (i) a base component having a bearing surface defined on a humeral-facing side thereof, (ii) a first peg extending from a scapula-facing side of the base component, and (iii) a second peg extending from the scapula-facing side of the base component, the first peg and the second peg being positioned in non-parallel orientation with respect to each other. The method also includes flexing at least one of the first peg and the second peg so that a first end portion of the first peg and a second end portion of the second peg are offset by a second distance which corresponds to the first distance.

  • Publication number: 20100161066
Abstract: A shoulder prosthesis includes a metaglene component that has (i) a base with a bearing-facing side, a scapula-facing side, and an external coupling surface interposed therebetween, (ii) an augment attached to the scapula-facing side of the base, and (iii) a post attached to at least one of the base and the augment. The metaglene component has defined therein a passage extending through at least both the base and the post. The metaglene component further having a plurality of fastener holes defined in the base. The shoulder prosthesis further includes a bearing component defining a cavity and including a bearing surface, the cavity defining an internal coupling surface, and the bearing-facing side of the metaglene component being located within the cavity so that the external coupling surface of the base is positioned in contact with the internal coupling surface of the bearing component to form a friction fit connection between the bearing component and the metaglene component.
