  • Patent number: 8252947
Abstract: The invention provides and describes solid state 17?-ethynyl-androst-5-ene-3?, 7?,17?-triol including amorphous and crystalline forms and specific polymorphic forms thereof. Anhydrates and solvates of 17?-ethynyl-androst-5-ene-3?, ?,17?-triol include Form I anhydrate and Form IV and Form V solvates. The invention further relates to solid and suspension formulations containing 17?-ethynyl-androst-5-ene-3?,7?,17?-triol in a described solid state form and use of the formulations to treat hyperglycemic conditions, such as type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome, and autoimmune conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis and type 1 diabetes, among other inflammation related conditions in subjects or human patients. The invention also relates to methods to make liquid formulations from solid state forms of 17?-ethynyl-androst-5-ene-3?, 7?,17?-triol and uses of such formulations in treating the described conditions.

  • Publication number: 20120074705
Abstract: According to the invention, a system for generating electricity from wind is disclosed. The system may include a vertical mounting pole, a generator, a first vertical axis wind turbine (“VAWT”), and a second VAWT. The generator may include a rotor, stator, and frame, fixedly coupled with the stator, and rotatably coupled with the vertical mounting pole such that the generator can rotate around a substantially vertical axis. The first VAWT may be fixedly coupled with the frame and configured to rotate in a first rotational direction around the vertical axis, and at least partially about the vertical mounting pole, when a wind is received. The second VAWT may be fixedly coupled with the rotor and configured to rotate in a second rotational direction around the vertical axis, and at least partially about the generator, when the wind is received, where the second rotational direction is opposite the first rotational direction.

  • Publication number: 20110144212
Abstract: The present invention provides a scalable process for the preparation of stilbenes by (i) condensing 3,5-dialkylbenzyl phosphonates with 4?-O-tetrahydropyranyl benzaldehyde to get 3,5-alkyl-4?-O-tetrahydropyranyl Stilbene and (ii) deprotecting the obtained 3,5-Dialkyl-4?-O-tetrahydropyranylstilbene to yield stilbenes. The present invention also provides a novel intermediate 3,5-Dialkyl-4?-O-tetrahydropyranyl stilbene, which is a key intermediate for the synthesis of stilbenes such as Pterostilbene and Resveratrol. The present invention also provides characteristics of various solid forms of Pterostilbene, methods for their preparation, as well as dosage forms containing the same for administration to or consumption by humans.

  • Publication number: 20080189661
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide methods and systems for providing user input to a system. For example, according to one embodiment, a video camera can be used to capture an image of a user and a background scene. Movements of the user can be detected from the video image and correlated to a user interface after initial calibration. Through this correlation, movements of the user can be translated into manipulations of the user interface. These manipulations of the user interface can in turn be used to control the system.
