  • Publication number: 20030098936
Abstract: Disclosed is a liquid crystal display module having a reduced thickness thereof. A light exit surface of a light guiding plate for converting a linear light source output from the lamp in the form of planar light source is non-planarized with a plurality of convex portions having a desired height. A prism sheet for controlling a path of the light output from the light guiding plate is laid on the light guiding plate, as being opposite the plurality of convex portions. Accordingly, it is possible to uniformly control the brightness distribution of the light output from the light guiding plate without providing a separate diffusing plate between the light guiding plate and the prism sheet. In addition, since the plurality of convex portions which are formed integrally with the light guiding plate directly faces the prism sheet, adherence between the light guiding plate and the prism sheet can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 6480248
Abstract: Disclosed are an LCD and a method of illuminating a liquid crystal layer. A protecting sheet is disposed on a reflection polarization film for enhancing the brightness. The protecting sheet is made of polyethylene terephthalate based material manufactured by an extension process to enhance the brightness, to improve visual angle and to prevent a Moire phenomenon. The LCD and the illumination method of the present invention enable high brightness displaying, color modulation depending on the visual angle and a relatively low manufacturing cost.

  • Publication number: 20010050736
Abstract: A method for illuminating a liquid crystal display device, a back-light assembly for performing the same and a liquid crystal display device using the same can improve the front luminance and production yield. Lights from a lamp is incident to a LCD panel side, which are then primarily diffused for a uniformity of the luminous flux of the incident lights. The luminous flux of the primarily diffused lights is condensed with respect to a first orientation component on a plane in parallel with the LCD panel, and then partially and secondarily diffused for extending a view angle of pixels of the LCD panel. After the luminous flux of the secondarily diffused lights is condensed with respect to a second orientation component perpendicular to the first orientation on the parallel plane, the condensed lights are illuminated onto the LCD panel.

  • Patent number: 6209017
Abstract: A digital signal processor having an ALU and accumulating register small in bit number. The digital signal processor adds r-bit rounding bits to an N-bit data(wherein r<N) and adds g-bit guard bits to the high-order bits of the data using bit alignment units each being implemented with a wiring, when N bit data is processed. The data added by the guard bits and the rounding bits is operated by means of the accumulator. The operated data is selectively rounded by a rounding processor. Also, the selectively rounded data is selectively saturated by a saturation processor.

  • Patent number: 6141092
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for measuring a flicker level. The method includes the steps of applying a first voltage to a liquid crystal display panel, the LCD panel including liquid crystal material and varying in transmissivity of light according to voltage applied to the liquid crystal material, such that light passing through the liquid crystal material is emitted from the LCD panel; detecting brightness of the light emitted from the LCD panel; determining a maximum brightness value and a minimum brightness value; and introducing the maximum brightness values and the minimum brightness value into a retina responsiveness function according to the brightness to attain flicker level values. The retina responsiveness function is a function of a strength of light passing through the pupil of the human eye.
