  • Patent number: 6724803
Abstract: An induction furnace capable of operation at temperatures of over 3100° C. has a cooling assembly (60), which is selectively mounted to an upper end of the furnace wall (76). The cooling assembly includes a dome and a lifting mechanism (80), mounted to the dome, which raises a cap (16) of the furnace slightly, allowing hot gases from the hot zone to mix with cooler gas in the dome.

  • Publication number: 20030189965
Abstract: An induction furnace capable of operation at temperatures of over 3100° C. has a cooling assembly (60), which is selectively mounted to an upper end of the furnace wall (76). The cooling assembly includes a dome (62), which is actively cooled by cooling water coils (68). During the cool-down portion of a furnace run, cooling initially proceeds naturally, by conduction of heat away from the hot zone through a furnace insulation layer (58). Once the temperature within the furnace hot zone (20) reaches about 1500° C., a lifting mechanism (80), mounted to the dome, raises a cap (16) of the furnace slightly, allowing hot gases from the hot zone to mix with cooler gas in the dome. This speeds up cooling of the hot zone, reducing cool-down times significantly, without the need for encumbering the furnace itself with valves or other complex cooling mechanisms which have to be replaced periodically.

  • Patent number: 6508184
Abstract: A lightweight folding table with legs that may be attached without a separate fixturing step is disclosed. Preferably, the table includes a table top having a working surface and a mounting surface, upon which the legs are attached. Fixturing mounts may be integrally formed with the table top by a process such as blow molding. The fixturing mounts may be configured to receive and hold independent mounting assemblies, each of which is pivotally attached to a leg. The fixturing mounts may have fixturing protrusions arranged so as to frictionally engage the mounting assemblies in such a manner that the mounting assemblies are held in place. An adhesive may then be applied to the mounting assemblies to provide a more permanent attachment, if desired. The adhesive may be allowed to set without using any external fixturing implements to hold the mounting assemblies in place.

  • Patent number: 6074170
Abstract: A pressure regulated electric pump is characterized by a positive displacement double acting reciprocating pump driven by an electric motor through a planetary roller screw. A controller senses the pressure of liquid at an outlet from the pump and varies the speed of the motor in a manner to maintain the pressure substantially constant. At a constant flow demand from the pump the motor is operated at a substantially constant speed. As flow demand rises and fans the instantaneous pump outlet pressure falls and rises. The changing pressure is sensed by the controller which makes incremental changes in the speed of the motor to cause the motor to speed up during a pressure fall and to slow down during a pressure rise, in such manner as to maintain pump outlet pressure substantially constant.

  • Patent number: 5829679
Abstract: A plural component airless spray gun for reactive liquid materials has a mix chamber into which coreactive liquid components are introduced and mixed, an airless tip at a forward outlet from the chamber from which the mixed components are emitted in a fan-shaped spray, and a mechanically operated purge rod for cleaning residual reactants from the mix chamber and airless tip. The purge rod has a main body of a diameter slightly less than that of the mix chamber and a probe at its forward end that geometrically conforms to and is adapted to enter into and clean the inside of the spray tip. During spraying the purge rod is retracted in the mix chamber rearwardly of liquid reactant inlets to the chamber. Upon completion of spraying or periodically as desired, the purge rod is moved forwardly to clean the mix chamber and the inside of the airless tip of residual reactive components.

  • Patent number: 5813760
Abstract: An agitator for a paint mix tank is characterized by a paddle that has passages in it extending between opposite sides thereof and that is reciprocated up and down in the tank to keep the paint mixed and pigments and fillers in the paint in suspension. The paddle is reciprocated in the tank in linear directions generally along paths through its passages. Reciprocation is provided by a motor operating through a gearbox, and the speed of the motor is adjustable to control the reciprocation rate of the paddle. The passages through the paddle improve its agitation performance and enable its linear speed to be sufficiently low during agitation of the paint to eliminate foaming of and entrapment of air in the paint. A process is also dislosed for mixing the liquid contents of the tank without foaming and aeration by providing the above apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5508603
Abstract: A remote load (14) is powered by a power supply 12 in response to a PWM IC (9), the error amp (10) of which is responsive to a voltage feedback signal on remote sense leads (19, 20) from the load. Remote sense leads (19, 20) are applied through a polarity correcting bridge (23) to the input (11) of the error amp (10). To compensate for broken leads, when the output of the bridge (28) falls below a threshold voltage (32), a switch (34) operates to connect the input of the error amp to the output (16, 37) of the power supply, locally.
