  • Publication number: 20200120721
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for network slice selection during an initial connection. A wireless station receives, from a core network device, network slice data for each network slice available via the wireless station, wherein the network slice data includes a slice identifier and corresponding slice characteristics for each network slice. The wireless station receives, from a user equipment (UE) device, a registration request message that indicates a network slice characteristic required by an application being executed on UE device. The wireless station selects, based on the network slice data from the core network device and the network slice characteristic from the UE device, one of the slice identifiers for servicing the UE device.

Abstract: A system includes an updated network function and a consumer network function. The updated network function includes a recent update and is configured to register at a Network Repository Function (NRF) using a Network Function (profile (NF profile). The NF profile indicates a network function type (NF type) and a first priority associated with the update. The consumer network function is configured to: receive a message from a network component; determine to engage a service of a network function of the NF type based on the message; determine a desired priority for the service; and send a discovery request to the NRF in response to the message; receive a search result from the NRF in response to the discovery request. The search result has a list of candidate network functions of the NF type.

  • Publication number: 20200068626
Abstract: A network device receives an attach request indicating that a user device is attempting a connection associated with a non-access stratum (NAS) and a particular interface, and generates a create session request that includes an indication that the connection for the user device is associated with the NAS and the particular interface. The network device provides, to a serving gateway (SGW) of the network, the create session request that includes the indication, and receives, from the SGW, a create session response that includes rules for handling the connection for the user device that is associated with the NAS and the particular interface, wherein the rules have been generated by a policy and charging rules function (PCRF) of the network. The network device provides, to the user device, an attach accept, that includes the rules, to permit the user device is to connect with the network and to utilize the rules.

  • Publication number: 20190394820
Abstract: A method for controlling bearers in a core network includes receiving, from a user equipment (UE) device, a request for access to network resources, where the core network is coupled with a primary radio access technology (RAT) and a secondary RAT. The method includes determining an access point name (APN) RAT access restriction in response to the received request, where the APN RAT access restriction associates an APN with a corresponding RAT, where the corresponding RAT comprises at least one of the primary RAT or the secondary RAT. The method also includes assigning a radio bearer based on the determined APN RAT access restriction, wherein the assigned radio bearer exchanges data via the corresponding RAT; and identifying, to a master node, the assigned radio bearer for exchanging data between the UE device and a device specified by the APN via the corresponding RAT.

  • Publication number: 20190373593
Abstract: Systems and methods described herein provide for coordination of inactivity procedures between wireless stations in a multi-RAT dual connectivity scenario. A wireless station identifies, for an end device, a multi-radio access technology (RAT) dual connectivity scenario with dedicated bearers and detects inactivity for a bearer using the master wireless station. In response to the detecting, the master wireless station sends, to a secondary wireless station, an inactivity status check for another bearer of the multi-RAT dual connectivity scenario. When a response to the inactivity status check is received from the secondary wireless station within a designated time window, the master wireless station waits for a release request from the secondary wireless station and initiates an inactivity procedure for the end device when the release request is received.

  • Publication number: 20190364417
Abstract: Systems and methods described herein enable differentiated policy enforcement for dual connectivity split bearer scenarios. A wireless station receives, from a core network associated with the wireless station, downlink packets directed to an end device that is using a dual-connectivity split bearer. The wireless station directs delivery of the downlink packets over different radio access networks (RANs) of the dual-connectivity split bearer. The wireless station logs a radio access technology (RAT)-type used to deliver each of the downlink packets and sends, based on the logging, a downlink RAT-type feedback report to a network device in the core network. The wireless station receives uplink packets from the end device using the dual-connectivity split bearer, marks each of the uplink packets with a RAT-type indicator, and forwards the marked packets to the network device in the core network.

  • Patent number: 10460611
Abstract: Flight path determination for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in which three-dimensional coverage information, corresponding to a wireless network, is used to optimize the flight path to ensure that the UAVs maintain network coverage throughout the flight. The flight path information may be provided as a service to UAV operators. In one implementation, network coverage for a network may be mapped in a three-dimensional manner. That is, the radio signal strength of the network may be mapped at various heights that correspond to heights at which UAVs are likely to fly.

  • Patent number: 10433207
Abstract: A method includes receiving metrics associated with traffic that complies with a grade of service (GOS) associated with a customer premises equipment (CPE) device, where the metrics identify a group of cells via which the traffic is received by the CPE device. The method also includes retrieving information associated with traffic conditions within a group of base stations; initiating a load balancing operation when traffic conditions within a base station indicate that a particular cell, associated with the base station, is congested; and sending, to a set of base stations that send traffic to the CPE device, a notification, where the notification causes traffic, not destined for the CPE device, to be rerouted to another base station, which enables the base station to send traffic, that complies with the GOS, to the CPE device, or causes the CPE device to receive traffic, that complies with the GOS, from a further based station.

  • Patent number: 10334504
Abstract: Techniques described herein may allow for the selective enabling and/or disabling of shared access points (“SAPs”). The selective enabling and/or disabling may occur based on the analysis of key performance indicators (“KPIs”) associated with the SAPs. The selective enabling and/or disabling may cause the SAPs to cease (or continue) broadcasting their availability for User Equipment (“UEs”) of a particular wireless provider, decline (or accept) bearer requests for UEs of the particular wireless provider, or terminate existing connections with UEs of the particular wireless provider. The selective enabling and/or disabling may be performed for certain applications or Quality of Service (“QoS”) levels. The selective enabling and/or disabling may be performed proactively (e.g., without necessarily determining that the performance for a given SAP has not met a threshold performance), based on historical trends.
