  • Publication number: 20070189878
Abstract: A decorative cap and wheel nut or bolt insert assembly, and a method of assembling them. The insert is coated and/or plated and includes a hex-shaped section and a section having a circular cylindrical outer surface. A cap includes a hex cross-section segment and a circular cylindrical cross-section segment. The hex cross-section segment of the cap slips easily over the hex section of the insert while the circular cylindrical cross-section segment has a smaller ID than the OD of the circular cylindrical insert section. The cap is formed of sheet material which is both plastically and elastically deformable. When pressed onto the insert, the cap deforms both plastically and elastically. An interference fit is formed between them by radial plastic deformation of the cap.

  • Publication number: 20070031216
Abstract: A hay bale loading apparatus for effectively and efficiently loading and hauling hay bales. The hay bale loading apparatus includes a plurality of grasping arms, a first actuator, a second actuator and a frame that is attachable to a pickup truck. The grasping arms are movable by the first actuator such that the grasping arms can secure a hay bale. The second actuator is attached to the plurality of grasping arms and to the frame, wherein the second actuator causes the grasping arms to move the hay bale radially about the second actuator from the ground to the bed of a pickup truck.

  • Publication number: 20070013897
Abstract: The present invention is an accumulated light meter that generates data concerning the quantity of photosynthetically active radiation available over a measured period of time. The device can calculate a daily light integral (DLI) that corresponds to the amount of light required by certain plants in order to optimize photosynthesis. The device also possesses the ability to filter out the effect that wavelengths of unproductive light have on the calculated values since not all light is conducive to photosynthesis and different species of plants can utilize different wavelengths of light in dissimilar ways.

  • Publication number: 20060110232
Abstract: The fastener assembly comprises a torquing member and a clamping pressure member assembled together on a common access. The torquing member has annual threads formed around the axis. An annular bearing surface extends around the axis on one end of the member. The clamping pressure member has an annular bearing surface formed around the axis on one end and an annular clamping surface extending around the axis on an opposite end. The annular bearing surface of the torquing member includes a first series of helically inclined surface segments having substantially the same pitch axis as the threads and a second series of helically inclined surface segments having the same pitch axis as the threads but a pitch equal to or greater than that of the threads, with an opposite incline.

  • Publication number: 20050147949
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to accident prevention, and more specifically, to a method of, and system for training individuals which reduces the frequency and/or severity of accident occurrences. The invention provides a method of reducing the frequency of industrial accidents comprising the steps of: determining the mental state of an individual at the time of an accident or close call; classifying the cause of the accident as being due to the individual being in one of four hazardous mental states; identifying the state-to-error risk pattern; and teaching the individual to effect critical error reduction techniques, to avoid future occurrences of accidents. The invention also provides a checklist outlining this methodology, for use in accident investigation.

  • Patent number: 6888863
Abstract: An improved optical communication system is provided, the system particularly suited for so-called short-haul applications, e.g., applications involving transmission over distances less than 100 km, such as metro applications. The system uses an external cavity laser made up of a gain medium that comprises an active region, a beam expanding region, and an antireflective layer, an optical waveguide located adjacent the gain medium, and a Bragg grating integral with or coupled to the optical waveguide. The medium and the optical waveguide, due to the beam expanding region, exhibit a coupling efficiency of at least 40%, advantageously at least 50%, even in the absence of coupling optics, and the laser is configured and operated to emit at least two modes.

  • Publication number: 20050062579
Abstract: A resettable switch has a light emitting diode in parallel connection therewith such that when the resettable switch is in a tripped condition, the resulting voltage drop across the LED causes a sufficient flow of current therein to illuminate the LED. A diode and resistor are placed in serial connection with said LED in order to protect the LED from excessive voltage and current.
