  • Patent number: 8831646
Abstract: A network sends an indication of discontinuous reception period (ldle_Mode_DRX_Period) and an indication of number of paging groups (Paging_Group_Count). Paging occasions for a user equipment are determined by a predetermined formula. One exemplary formula is SFN mod IDLE_Mode_DRX_Period=(IDLE_Mode_DRX_Period div Paging_Group_Count) *(ID) mod (Paging_Group_Count); where SFN is system frame number and ID is the identifier of the user equipment, which can be IMSI or some value derived from IMSI. The UE's temporary ID is sent during a determined paging occasion, which maps to a paging channel on which the page is sent. Options for restricting the paging occasion to less than a frame, and for offsetting the paging occasions from that of the above formula are detailed.

  • Patent number: 8818321
Abstract: A method, receiving device, network element, system and computer program product for controlling discontinuous reception at a receiving device of a communication network are disclosed. A regular discontinuous reception cycle of a discontinuous reception scheme is set, and this regular discontinuous reception cycle is switched to a shorter temporary discontinuous reception cycle or is switched off, in response to an event which triggers a reply of the communication network to the receiving device. Thereby, delays of network replies can be shortened or controlled in case discontinuous reception (DRX) cycles are implemented at the receiving device.

  • Patent number: 8780729
Abstract: A network learns capability information indicating whether a user equipment (UE) is capable of simultaneous and independent operation in multiple component carriers (CCs). The network configures a monitoring pattern for each of multiple CCs that are configured for the UE in dependence on the received capability information. The capability information derives from the UE's RF layout; if the UE is capable of such simultaneous and independent operation the network can assign for the CCs different monitoring patterns that are independent of one another and the UE will have no gaps where it cannot take or send a measurement. This knowledge is particularly useful if the CCs are frequency non-contiguous with one another. If the UE is not so capable, the network must assign monitoring patterns to that UE for all its configured CCs that are not independent of one another.

  • Publication number: 20140031027
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided that continue to obtain the power saving advantages provided by discontinuous reception, while obtaining the measurement samples that are desired during a sampling time period, such as during a time to trigger period, to determine of handover is appropriate. In the context of a method, a measurement sample is caused to be obtained during a discontinuous reception monitoring period. The method may determine that a sampling time period has been commenced based upon a measurement sample. During the sampling time period, one or more additional measurement samples are to be obtained. The method may also determine that the additional measurement samples will not be obtained prior to commencement of the sleep period between monitoring periods and, as a result, cause one or more additional measurement samples to be obtained at respective times that would otherwise have been in the sleep period.
