  • Patent number: 9535464
Abstract: An information handling system housing is provided with a base portion, a head portion and a chin portion all coupled via a hinge such that the chin portion are separately articulable. By providing the hinge so that the chin portion can articulate separately from the rest of the head portion, the chin portion can articulate towards the rear of the system. This articulation reduces the table height of the hinge pivot point, and therefore reduces the slope of the base and keyboard assembly.

  • Patent number: 9507400
Abstract: A portable information handling system manages battery charge to maintain a minimum level that supports boot by disconnecting the battery from a battery discharge path so that battery charge is lost substantially only to self-discharge. The battery automatically reconnects to the battery discharge path if external power becomes available to charge the battery. The minimum battery charge level provides adequate power in combination with the external power to support boot of the portable information handling system to an operational state.

  • Publication number: 20160125777
Abstract: A system, method, and computer-readable medium for reducing image sticking by jittering an image enough so that sharp borders in the image are not always displayed on the same set of pixel elements. This jittering can also cause sharp borders of an image to be sufficiently blurred so as to not leave a visible line artifact on the screen after the user changes to a different image. More specifically, the system uses a webcam in conjunction with an eye tracking function to monitor a user and only allow the image to be jittered during the short intervals over which the user is not actually looking at the screen. This monitoring allows for the displacement of the jitter function to be greater and more effective, without being visible to the user, so as to avoid an annoying user experience.

  • Publication number: 20160093240
Abstract: Display data is altered for a flexed portion of a flexible display. A stress amount (e.g., hinge angle) is detected for the affected region of the display. Based on the stress amount and location of the stress, a color mapping is changed to cause the affected portion to display as desired, for example to display consistently with other portions of the display. Viewing angle can be detected and used to further change the color mapping for the affected region. Changing the color mapping may be based on empirical data stored for known stresses for the display or similar displays.

The flexible display screen includes first and second surfaces, and has a first hardness level. The flexible display screen movably mounted to the first and second display platforms along the first surface. The coating is in physical communication with the second surface of the flexible display screen and includes a first region having a second hardness level greater than the first hardness level of the flexible display screen; and a second region having a third hardness level, the third hardness level being greater than the second harness level.

  • Publication number: 20150116364
Abstract: An information handling system may have two display screens including a first integrated display device and a second integrated display device attached via a hinge. A processor determines a first relative orientation of the first integrated display device to the second integrated display device from a plurality of orientation sensors and further determines working software application context by detecting at least one software application running on the information handling system. The system further includes a controller module deploys a power savings strategy. For example, the controller may restrict power usage to the first or second integrated display device based on the first relative orientation and the working software application context.

  • Patent number: 8049741
Abstract: An improved system and method for selectively applying LCD Response Time Compensation (LRTC) to areas of an LCD panel containing video motion. Motion vectors contained within macroblocks in a compressed video stream are utilized to qualify whether individual pixels in a video frame are a candidate for LRTC. In various embodiments of the invention, computationally expensive LRTC can be selectively applied, pixel-by-pixel, which can result in portable information system power savings by reducing the number of computational cycles and the amount of graphics controller power overhead.

  • Patent number: 7518613
Abstract: An activity poller on an external graphics box is activated during inactivity in communication from a host information handling system to the external graphics box, such as over an external PCI Express cable. The activity poller periodically sends a memory read request from the external graphics box to the host information handling system through the PCI Express cable and analyzes the response to determine the operational state of the host information handling system. Failure of the host information handling system to respond to the polling for a predetermined time results in presentation of a locally generated diagnostic message at the external graphics box, such as message stored in shader instructions of the external graphics box.
