  • Patent number: 8154349
Abstract: An atomic clock including a mechanism applying both a static magnetic field and two oscillating magnetic fields, all mutually perpendicular, in a magnetic shield. The amplitudes and frequencies of the oscillating magnetic fields may be chosen so as to annihilate energy variations between sub-transition levels of excited atoms and to reinforce a clock output signal, and with low sensitivity to defects in regulation.

Abstract: In general, this disclosure relates to techniques for sealing, or pinching, high-pressure fluid tubing (e.g., braided tubing) that may be used to deliver medical fluid from a powered medical fluid injection device, such as an injector that delivers contrast media and/or saline during angiographic or computed tomography (CT) procedures. In some cases, one or more low-friction, solenoid-based pinch valve mechanisms may be used. One example powered medical fluid injection device comprises an injector head and at least one pinch valve mechanism that is coupled to the injector head. The at least one pinch valve mechanism comprises a plunger, a reciprocating arm driven by the plunger, and a tube pinching area. The at least one pinch valve mechanism, when deactivated by the injector head, is configured to cause the reciprocating arm to pinch fluid tubing that runs through the tube pinching area.

  • Patent number: 8154984
Abstract: A method for generating mutually orthogonal signals having a controlled spectrum, includes the generation of a plurality of mutually orthogonal, controlled-power discrete spectra s(i) having dimension Q, i designating spectrum number. The aforementioned spectra represent time signals in the spectral range and have a modulus ? that is constant in a spectral line designation set G and zero everywhere else. The method includes determining at least part of a complex Hadamard matrix H of order dR=w in the case of spectra of real signals and dR=2.w in the case of spectra of complex signals; determining the extension P of matrix H from G and dimension Q; and obtaining controlled-power spectra s(i)=?.P(H[.][i]), wherein H[.][i] designates the ith column of matrix H. In addition, a plurality of mutually orthogonal time signals s(i) is also generated from the discrete complex signals.

  • Publication number: 20120082776
Abstract: A food processing system 10 comprising a cooking apparatus 12 and a cooling apparatus 14. The apparatus 12, 14 are similar and are configured for processing sausages which have casings which are fragile and easily ruptured. The apparatus 12 comprises a processing vessel 16 for containing a cooking liquid, a feed chute 18, a guide means in the form of jets 56.1, 56.2 and 56.3, a screw conveyer 22 and a discharge conveyer 24. The sausages are fed into the vessel 16 via feed chute 18. The jets 56.1, 56.2 and 56.3 guide the sausages into optimal positions relative to the screw conveyer 22 which conveys the sausages to the discharge conveyer 24. The jets 56.1, 56.2 and 56.3 also separate the sausages ensuring that the sausages do not “bunch up” when deposited into the vessel 16 and also ensure that the sausages are aligned and travel in a direction substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the screw conveyer 22 thereby to reduce impact forces applied to the sausages by the conveyer 22.

  • Publication number: 20120081247
Abstract: A radar includes a transmitting antenna and receiving antenna formed by an array of radiant elements. Antenna beams are calculated in P directions by a BFC function. Detections of a target by secondary lobes of the beams are processed by an algorithm comparing levels received in a distance-speed resolution cell, a single detection at most not being possible for each distance-speed resolution cell. Processing means use the assumption that there may probably be more than one echo with a signal-to-noise ratio that is sufficient to be detectable, for a given resolution cell of the radar, either in speed mode or in distance mode, or, alternatively, a distance-speed depending on the processing implemented; and, if there is more than one echo detectable for each resolution cell out of the plurality of beams formed by BFC, only the echo and BFC that obtain maximum power or maximum signal-to-noise ratio are/is considered valid.

  • Publication number: 20120080083
Abstract: A semiconductor assembly is described with a thin metal oxide layer interposed between a transparent conductive oxide and an amorphous silicon layer, along with methods for making this structure. The metal oxide layer has a refractive index or range of refractive indices intermediate between that of the transparent conductive oxide and the amorphous silicon layer, and thus tends to reduce reflection at the interface. Such a layer can be used at the light-facing surface of a light-sensitive device such as a photovoltaic cell to maximize the amount of incident light entering the cell. Titanium oxide is a suitable metal oxide, and has a refractive index between those of silicon and of both indium tin oxide and aluminum-doped zinc oxide, two common transparent conductive oxides.

  • Publication number: 20120081294
Abstract: One embodiment includes an apparatus that receives gesture-based touch inputs from a user to provide keyboard functionality, via a limited number of input regions, to a separate digital device. The apparatus comprises: a touch-sensitive array; a processor; a communication module; and a casing. The touch-sensitive array defines a first zone with a plurality of radially-arranged touch regions, wherein the touch-sensitive array detects user touches at the regions of the first zone. The processor communicates with the touch-sensitive array, and distinguishes between various user input types for each region of the first zone. The processor generates an output that is a character associated with the input type. The communication module transmits the output to the separate digital device. The casing substantially houses the processor, the communication module and the touch-sensitive array.

  • Patent number: 8151019
Abstract: A network traffic shaper adjusts the rate of data flowing from a packet source to a packet sink responsive to priority assigned to the packets pursuant to their ability to match a series of filters. Each packet is applied to a queue depending on its classification. The packets are read from each queue in accordance with a queue reading policy. Singular spectrum analysis of the traffic load produces a set of vectors that capture the spectral bases of the traffic state. These vectors are associated with the bandwidth demanded by the traffic, a relationship that is recorded in a queue/time/eigenvector/bandwidth/control table. Samples of the current network load are compared with previously recorded vector bases to reveal how similar the current traffic state is to previous traffic states, which in turn predicts the traffic's bandwidth needs for the immediate future. The queue reading regime is updated in response to this prediction.
