Publication number: 20080108422Abstract: Techniques for simulating mechanical reels are disclosed. The techniques are especially suitable for simulating mechanical reels typically used for reel-based games in gaming machines (or units). Image of at least one rotating mechanical reel can be projected on at least one projection surface to effectively simulate at least one mechanical reel. The image can be projected on multiple rotating projection surfaces (or reels) to give a closer illusion of a mechanical reel-based game. Projection can be accomplished by using a projection system coupled to one or more processors that processes projection data.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 8, 2006Publication date: May 8, 2008Applicant: IGTInventors: Randy Hedrick, Russell Chudd, John Leagh Beadell, Fred Nesemeier

Patent number: 6709324Abstract: An adjustable escalator device is provided in a gaming terminal for receiving singulated coins from a gaming terminal output hopper and outputting coins at a higher level. The escalator can be adjusted to define a coin path of adjustable width and/or adjustable thickness and accommodate a range of coin or token sizes. In one aspect, a leaf spring or other flexible member can be moved to define a curved coin path portion with adjustable width and a preferably contiguous rail can be laterally transposed to adjust a width of a second portion of the coin path. Coin path thickness can be adjusted using different rail thicknesses, using shims and/or using screw adjustments.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2000Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Assignee: IGTInventor: John Leagh Beadell

Patent number: 6220954Abstract: A coin output hopper capable of handling coins of different diameters and thicknesses is provided. A backplate is supported by a spring suspension to maintain the backplate substantially parallel to a rotating holeywheel/pinwheel despite misalignments, warping or other misshaping of the pinwheel. A coin guide is provided with a geometry to engage with different diameter coins so as to position the coins in the desired position within a coin pocket. A deflector is provided with a geometry which engages different diameter coins to accelerate coins along a knife edge exit path. The coins are forced along a path toward and along the knife edge by pins positioned such that excessive forces are avoided for any of a range of coin diameters.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1997Date of Patent: April 24, 2001Assignee: International Game TechnologyInventors: Binh Nguyen, John Leagh Beadell, Daniel J. Patent number: 6168513Abstract: A coin singulator for outputting coins in single file in a known orientation for effecting payout from a gaming terminal is provided. A rotatable disk is positioned spaced-apart from a backplate to define a substantially cylindrical region therebetween in conjunction with a rim region. Vanes on the front surface of the rotating disk convey coins picked up from a randomly-oriented mass of coins to a central opening of the disk for conveyance through the central opening into the space between the disk and the backplate. The distance between the disk and the backplate is such that only a single layer or thickness of coins is accommodated. Preferably the backplate is inclined such that the coins are positioned in face-to-face contact with the backplate. A plurality of vanes on the back surface of the disk moves the coin along the rim to an exit opening in the rim with the back surface vanes preferably shaped to output no more than a single coin as each rim passes the opening.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1999Date of Patent: January 2, 2001Assignee: International Game TechnologyInventors: Michael Joseph Souza, Binh Nguyen, Leagh Beadell
