  • Patent number: 7309785
Abstract: This invention provides modified, insecticidal Cry35 proteins with enhanced properties as compared to wild-type Cry35 proteins. The modifications to these proteins were based in part on analysis of the atomic coordinates and three-dimensional (3D) structure of the ˜45 kDa 149B1 protein and other proteins in the Cry35 class. The subject invention also includes polynucleotides that encode these modified proteins, and transgenic plants that produce these modified proteins. This invention further provides methods of controlling plant pests, including rootworms, with these modified proteins. The modified proteins of the subject invention include chimeric toxins involving exchanged segments, domains, and motifs as discussed herein. The subject invention also provides methods of modifying Cry35 proteins.

  • Patent number: 7270076
Abstract: A flag pole mounted unfurling device is installed on a flagpole and rotates to minimize the unwanted furling of the flag. The device includes a lower swivel, an upper swivel, and a baton that extends between the lower swivel and the upper swivel to retain the two swivels in alignment and properly separated. The upper swivel and lower swivel are free to rotate around the axis of the pole while the baton serves to couple the upper and lower swivels together, both rotationally and longitudinally. The entire assembly is longitudinally retained on the pole by an upper collar and a lower collar and minimizes the unwanted furling of a flag through ‘dynamic instability.

  • Patent number: 7254693
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product are disclosed for selectively prohibiting speculative conditional branch execution. A particular type of conditional branch instruction is selected. An indication is stored within each instruction that is the particular type of conditional branch instruction. A processor then fetches a first instruction from code that is to be executed. A determination is made regarding whether the first instruction includes the indication. In response to determining that the instruction includes the indication: speculative execution of the first instruction is prohibited, an actual location to which the first instruction will branch is resolved, and execution of the code is branched to the actual location. In response to determining that the instruction does not include the indication, the first instruction is speculatively executed.

  • Patent number: 7194645
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer instructions are provided to autonomically monitor and adjust system characteristics based on a customer optimization goal specified in a policy or profile. An autonomic management component is implemented in firmware comprising a set of control algorithms. Response to reading system characteristics from a plurality of sensors, the autononmic management component selects at least one control algorithm from the set and the control algorithm adjusts the parameters of the system characteristic to optimize performance according to the optimization goal specified by the customer.

  • Patent number: 7139745
Abstract: A TEFP-FEC system provides an efficient technique for storing, updating, locating, and retrieving data. In particular, data may be stored in a persistent, user-defined, shareable in-memory database table. Once this in-memory database table is created and loaded with data, data may be located in the table. When a search request specifying a number of results to be retrieved from a desired starting point is received, the data is located in an in-memory database table. Then, the specified number of results from a desired starting point are returned. The data is retrieved from the in-memory database table by retrieving stored descriptors corresponding to search terms in the search request. The stored descriptors are mapped to location information in a header area of an in-memory database table. Using the location information data is retrieved either from a data area of an in-memory database table or from a relational data store.

  • Patent number: 7103836
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for managing Internet presentation materials in a single file format for ease of administration while presenting to an Internet requestor only those portions of the file requested, for maximum performance. Also disclosed is a system and method for presenting Internet materials using borderless presentation areas, where the background specification is decoupled from the presentation area specification. The invention also relates to a system and method for using a dynamic web page builder to generate and manage multiple instances of information to be simultaneously displayed in multiple presentation areas, in which one of the presentation areas contains table of contents information listing various selectable web pages stored in a single file. The table of contents information is continuously displayed on-screen when any of the items listed in the table of contents is selected for ease of navigation through a web site.

The data that is updated may either be data in a data area of the in-memory database table or may be relational data. When data is updated, a high speed index used to access the in-memory database table is also updated.

  • Publication number: 20060133781
Abstract: A DVD random shuffle method includes adapting a DVD player to play a pre-set initial routine, and instructing the DVD player to present a subsequent routine selection to a user. The subsequent routine selection is between a first pre-set routine and a second routine. The second routine is a random re-sequencing of the first pre-set routine. The method also includes directing the DVD player to play one of the first and second routines depending on the routine selection of the user, and thereafter, commanding the DVD player to play a pre-set terminal routine.

  • Patent number: 6848044
Abstract: A method of performing operations to a link stack including the step of performing a Pop operation from the link stack which includes the substeps of storing a first pointer value to the link stack, the first pointer value being the value of a pointer to the link stack before the Pop operation, and storing a first address including a first tag popped from the link stack. The method further includes the step of performing a Push operation to the link stack which includes the substeps of storing a second address including a second tag being Pushed into the link stack and storing a second pointer to the link stack, the second pointer being the value of the pointer to the link stack after the Push operation.

  • Publication number: 20040097892
Abstract: The catheter has a retainer/seal made of soft material glued to the inside circumference at its opening. The catheter is applied by inserting the penis head into the opening and pulling the catheter retainer/seal onto the penis shaft. The excess material at the opening is wrapped around the shaft of the penis and secured with a short length of tape applied to the outside of the catheter. The retainer/seal encircles the penis shaft just proximal to the penis head. The lower (distal) surface of the retainer/seal shoulders up against the ridge formed by the penis head. The diameter of the penis shaft is less than the diameter of the penis head at its proximal end. Because the retainer/seal has been fitted to the smaller diameter penis shaft, the catheter cannot be removed without deforming the penis head.

  • Patent number: 6663116
Abstract: A vehicle truck for supporting a ground contacting device, and an independent-suspension turnable skate vehicle truck which supports a wheel or wheels or a runner or ski, and a boot having in-line wheels or tandem wheels is provided. The independent-suspension turnable skate vehicle truck has one or more deflecting beams attached to a wheel axle hanger and the opposite end attached to a skate vehicle mounting structure. The deflecting beam has at least one horizontal component and/or at least one vertical component. The vertical components resist vertical deflection of the wheel axle hangers to restrict upward and downward movement of the wheels or other ground contacting portions. The horizontal component controls most twisting motions controlling turning of the deflecting beam and wobble of the wheel. The truck and mounting surface are adaptable to permit changes to the number of wheels or ground contacting portions, the position of the wheels, and the thickness of the wheels.

  • Patent number: 6660039
Abstract: A mobile bearing knee prosthesis enables a surgeon to convert a mobile bearing insert having articular surfaces, supported by a tibial base plate or tray from a rotating and translating prosthesis to one that rotates only. This conversion is accomplished with a fastener or locking member that connects through an opening in the insert to the tibial base plate. This prosthesis can be used as part of a total knee surgery when the surgeon chooses to use a prosthesis that incorporates a movable articular surface. In one embodiment, a projecting portion extends proximally from the insert and cooperates with a cam on the femoral component. The projecting portion can be a post extending up from the proximal surface of the insert and the femoral component includes an intercondylar surface that may contact the post to constrain the relative motion between the femoral component and the insert.
