  • Patent number: 4557265
Abstract: The invention relates to suturing instrument for joining two edges of biological tissue together. The instrument includes a housing (1) in which there is movably arranged an arcuate suture needle (16) having a point (17) arranged to penetrate the tissue, and the suture thread (18) connected to the suture needle. Drive means (3,8,11,12,13) are provided for causing the needle (16) to move in a manner such as to pass the thread thereon through one of the tissue edges and up through the other of the tissue edges, to join the two edges together with a firm suture. The novel feature of the instrument resides in the fact that the end of the suture needle remote from the point (17) thereof is connected to the suture thread and is arranged to be driven in the direction of the point (17) in a closed path by the drive means.

  • Patent number: 4174608
Abstract: Combustion system for gas turbines and the like, comprising an outer shell connected to a source of pressurized air and surrounding a flame tube which comprises a combustion chamber and a mixing chamber defined within a double wall construction comprising an outer wall and an inner wall forming an annular cooling jacket axially surrounding the mixing chamber. A portion of the pressurized air is directed radially into the mixing chamber through a plurality of nozzles which are spaced about the cooling jacket, while another portion of the air is passed into said annular jacket through apertures in the outer wall alternating with and spaced a distance from said nozzles to produce a plurality of diverging high velocity peripheral streams which sweep and cool the walls of the jacket preliminary to being passed into the mixing chamber through apertures in the inner wall which are aligned with said nozzles.

  • Patent number: 4027699
Abstract: A fluid distribution valve includes a single inlet and a plurality of parallel outlets for connection to a plurality of fluid demand locations. Plural valve elements prevent large flows to the outlets in a first position of the valve while throttle by-passages around the valve elements allow small, usually equal flows to all demand locations in the first position. In a second position, the valve elements permit flow to the parallel outlets in proportion to the flow resistance at the demand locations.

  • Patent number: 4015118
Abstract: A method and circuit for controlling the amplification in a radiation-detecting avalanche diode in which the diode generates electrical signals dependent upon the received radiation. These electrical signals are fed to evaluating means and a control signal is derived from the diode having a frequency which differs from the frequency used in the evaluation means. The amplitude of the control signal is compared with a preset value and the supply voltage of the diode is varied in dependence upon this comparison for controlling amplification of the diode.
