Publication number: 20100130243Abstract: Power control methods and apparatus taught herein advantageously provide quick convergence to the signal quality target needed to achieve a given data error rate target, when changes in transport format use by a given transport channel require such convergence. Specifically, the methods and apparatus maintain a “baseline” signal quality target that stays current with changing signal propagation conditions because it is common to all transport formats used by the transport channel. The methods and apparatus then bias this baseline signal quality target with a target offset particularized for the transport format in use. This offset may be selected from memory or dynamically calculated, and, regardless, can often be applied after a single transmission time interval.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 9, 2009Publication date: May 27, 2010Inventors: Lennart Andersson, Tobias Junno, Torgny Palenius

Patent number: 7647049Abstract: Whether relative velocity between a transmitter and a receiver is higher than a predetermined amount is detected. This involves using a Doppler estimation technique to generate an estimate of Doppler spread, {circumflex over (f)}D(1), based on a received signal, and using an alternative velocity estimation technique to generate an estimate of velocity, {circumflex over (v)}, based on the received signal, wherein the alternative velocity estimation technique differs from the Doppler estimation technique. A plurality of estimates, including at least the estimate of Doppler spread and the estimate of velocity, are used to detect whether the relative velocity between the transmitter and the receiver is higher than the predetermined amount. The alternative velocity estimation technique may, for example, be a second Doppler estimation technique that differs from the other Doppler estimation technique.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2006Date of Patent: January 12, 2010Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Karin Engdahl, Lennart Andersson

Patent number: 7647063Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for improving convergence time of a reference signal-to-interference (SIR) value calculated in outer loop power control for use in inner loop power control. Instead of considering only error rate information for each transport channel individually, other information, such as quality information from other transport channels and block rate information for the channel, is also considered to determine the reference SIR. By considering such other information, an improved outer loop power control is achieved, thus reducing the power needed for the physical channel and increasing the capacity of the communication system.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2004Date of Patent: January 12, 2010Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Lennart Andersson, Bengt Lindoff

Publication number: 20090003377Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for detecting a control channel message transmitted on one of a plurality of shared control channels and targeted to a wireless receiver. In an exemplary method, messages transmitted over a plurality of shared control channels are decoded, and at least one likelihood metric is determined for each of the decoded messages. A best candidate is selected from the decoded messages, based on the likelihood metrics, and the at least one likelihood metric for the best candidate is compared to corresponding likelihood metrics for the messages other than the best candidate to determine whether the best candidate is a valid message. Wireless communication receivers configured correspondingly are also disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 26, 2007Publication date: January 1, 2009Inventors: Lennart Andersson, Andres Reial

Publication number: 20090003301Abstract: The number of blind decoding operations in a wireless communication receiver is reduced. In one embodiment, a candidate set of transport formats is formed by eliminating one or more allowed transport formats, thus reducing the number of decode operations to be performed. In another embodiment, a received data transmission is partially decoded according to each of a plurality of transport formats, and decode quality metrics associated with each transport format are inspected. Only the transport formats yielding sufficiently high quality metrics are utilized to fully decode the transmission. In other embodiments, upon failure to successfully decode a received transmission, it is assumed to be a retransmission with a missed control transmission, and one or more transport formats specifying the position of a previous transmission in a buffer are added to the candidate set of transport formats. The received retransmission and previously received transmission are then HARQ combined and decoded.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2007Publication date: January 1, 2009Inventors: Andres Reial, Lennart Andersson

Patent number: 7433433Abstract: Methods and apparatus that achieve good channel estimation without using unnecessarily complex interpolation filters are described. Adaptive interpolation filtering of a signal in a receiver includes determining at least one correlation function parameter of the channel and determining a filter configuration based on the correlation function parameter. Interpolation filtering is then performed on the signal using the determined filter configuration. The interpolation may be performed in time, where a Doppler frequency shift can serve as the correlation function parameter, or in frequency, where a root mean square or maximum delay spread can serve as the correlation function parameter, or both. A worst case signal-to-noise ratio may be used in determining the filter configuration, or, optionally, the signal-to-noise ratio can determined in real time. The filter configuration can be determined in real time or selected from one of a plurality of predetermined configurations having different complexities.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 2004Date of Patent: October 7, 2008Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Leif Wilhelmsson, Bo Bernhardsson, Lennart Andersson
