  • Publication number: 20080014881
Abstract: Whether relative velocity between a transmitter and a receiver is higher than a predetermined amount is detected. This involves using a Doppler estimation technique to generate an estimate of Doppler spread, {circumflex over (f)}D(1), based on a received signal, and using an alternative velocity estimation technique to generate an estimate of velocity, {circumflex over (v)}, based on the received signal, wherein the alternative velocity estimation technique differs from the Doppler estimation technique. A plurality of estimates, including at least the estimate of Doppler spread and the estimate of velocity, are used to detect whether the relative velocity between the transmitter and the receiver is higher than the predetermined amount. The alternative velocity estimation technique may, for example, be a second Doppler estimation technique that differs from the other Doppler estimation technique.

  • Publication number: 20060262840
Abstract: According to method and apparatus embodiments taught herein, power control feedback is generated for a control channel signal that is received in conjunction with a reference channel signal based on the reference channel's signal strength or quality, and an estimate of a gain factor relating the control and reference channel signals. By way of non-limiting example set in a Wideband CDMA (WCDMA) context, the reference channel signal comprises a Common Pilot Channel (CPICH) signal and the control channel signal comprises a Fractional Dedicated Physical Channel (F-DPCH) signal that is transmitted at an (unknown) power gain relative to the CPICH signal.

  • Publication number: 20060262754
Abstract: A wireless communication device or system generates transmit power control feedback for a received power control channel by determining a command error rate (CER), or by identifying a target signal quality for the power control channel according to a defined signal-quality-to-CER mapping function. Generally, the power control channel does not include error-coded data to use for CER estimation. However, in one embodiment, the channel does include known reference bits that are evaluated for CER estimation, with the estimated CER used to set the signal quality target for inner loop power control. In other embodiments, a computed reception error probability is used to identify a CER estimate according to a defined probability-to-CER mapping function. By way of non-limiting example, these embodiments may be used to provide power control feedback for power control commands transmitted on a Fractional Dedicated Physical Channel in WCDMA systems.

  • Publication number: 20060179823
Abstract: A piston-type internal combustion engine (10) having an intake line (20) for delivering air to combustion chambers of the engine and an exhaust system (15, 22) for removing exhaust gases from said combustion chambers. The exhaust system includes equipment (29, 30) for reducing environmentally harmful exhaust emissions from the engine, which is intended to function with variable load in order to propel a vehicle. The exhaust system (15, 22) has a branch pipe (26) controlled by a valve (24) and bypassing at least one part of the equipment (29, 30) for reducing environmentally harmful exhaust emissions. The valve (24) is controlled so that it leads the exhaust gas flow through the branch pipe (26) over a part of the overall load range of the engine. The engine is optimized in order to give acceptable exhaust emissions over said part of the overall load range of the engine.

  • Publication number: 20050105647
Abstract: Methods and apparatus that achieve good channel estimation without using unnecessarily complex interpolation filters are described. Adaptive interpolation filtering of a signal in a receiver includes determining at least one correlation function parameter of the channel and determining a filter configuration based on the correlation function parameter. Interpolation filtering is then performed on the signal using the determined filter configuration. The interpolation may be performed in time, where a Doppler frequency shift can serve as the correlation function parameter, or in frequency, where a root mean square or maximum delay spread can serve as the correlation function parameter, or both. A worst case signal-to-noise ratio may be used in determining the filter configuration, or, optionally, the signal-to-noise ratio can determined in real time. The filter configuration can be determined in real time or selected from one of a plurality of predetermined configurations having different complexities.

  • Publication number: 20050085255
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for improving convergence time of a reference signal-to-interference (SIR) value calculated in outer loop power control for use in inner loop power control. Instead of considering only error rate information for each transport channel individually, other information, such as quality information from other transport channels and block rate information for the channel, is also considered to determine the reference SIR. By considering such other information, an improved outer loop power control is achieved, thus reducing the power needed for the physical channel and increasing the capacity of the communication system.

  • Patent number: 6398908
Abstract: A process for delignification and bleaching of chemically digested lignocellulose-containing pulp. In a first embodiment, the pulp is acid treated at a pH of between about 1 and about 6, whereupon a water-soluble compound containing an alkaline earth metal is added at a pH of between about 1 and about 7 before the pulp is treated with a chlorine-free bleaching agent. In a second embodiment, the acid and alkaline earth metal treatments are carried out in a single step. The chlorine-free bleaching agent includes peroxide compounds, ozone, oxygen and sodium dithionite in an optional sequence or mixture. After the treatment according to the invention, the pulp may be finally bleached to the desired brightness, suitably with a chlorine-free bleaching agent, such as ozone, to completely avoid formation and discharge of AOX.

  • Patent number: 6204804
Abstract: The velocity vector of a moving object is precisely determined by using radar measurements of the angle to and the radial speed of a moving object. This can be done in a radar system comprising one or more units. The technique also makes it possible to precisely determine the range to a moving object from a single moving radar unit.

  • Patent number: 5658429
Abstract: A process for delignification and bleaching of chemically digested lignocellulose-containing pulp, where the pulp is treated with a complexing agent at a pH between 3.1 and 9.0, whereupon the pulp is bleached with ozone. The initial treatment with a complexing agent removes the ions of certain metals detrimental to the subsequent ozone bleaching, while retaining in the pulp the desirable ions, primarily of alkaline earth metals. Thereby, the selectivity in the delignification is increased and the strength of the pulp maintained. The pulp can be bleached with peroxide before the ozone step and/or after the treatment according to the invention, to obtain the desired final brightness and completely avoid formation and discharge of chlorinated organic compounds.

  • Patent number: 4024536
Abstract: A method and a device for presenting digits, letters and other characters uses a number of signals for representing each character. Said signals are combined with signals from manually operable touch point electrodes. When predetermined electrodes are operated simultaneously with reception of a predetermind character signal or character signal combination, the combining means activates an acoustic, visual or tactile output signal so that a character representing signal code can be recognized. A code conversion between the input signals and the output signals can be provided so that the output character is presented in a code with fewer elements than the input character.
