  • Patent number: 6503238
Abstract: An absorbent article suitable for use as a diaper or adult incontinence garment includes an absorbent body disposed between a cover sheet, an inner sheet. Longitudinally extending folds disposed on the inner sheet inhibit the leakage of bodily exudates from the edges of the article. Elastic members extend along a portion of the length of the folds in the mid portion of the article. In the back portion of the article, elastic members connected to the inner sheet extend adjacent the edges of the absorbent body to enhance the fit of the garment. In the front portion of the article, elastic members may also be connected to the inner sheet and extend adjacent the edges of the absorbent body to enhance the fit of the garment.

  • Patent number: 6310866
Abstract: A medium access control (MAC) protocol for use in a wireless network, that efficiently supports automatic and timely frequency assignment. The MAC protocol accomplishes this by providing periodic “quiet intervals”. During these intervals, all transmissions in a corresponding broadcast region are halted, thereby enabling the base station controlling the broadcast region to measure interference over a number of potential frequency carriers. The interference measurements can then be used by an automatic frequency assignment algorithm to reassign frequencies, if necessary, to the various base stations which make up the wireless network. When a base station is reassigned a new frequency, the MAC protocol also provides a period during which the base station can tune to a newly assigned frequency, and thereafter, a period during which the wireless terminals associated with the base station synchronize themselves to the base station and the generation of MAC frames over the newly assigned frequency.

  • Patent number: 6170636
Abstract: The invention relates to an application drum for use in the production of absorbent articles. The application drum has a longitudinal axis of rotation and comprises material engagement means on the outside thereof for both collecting and delivering a material component. In order to be able to use only a single drum and still be able to place material components more to one or the, other side of the center-line of a conveyor belt, the material engagement means is arranged for reciprocal movement with respect to the drum in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the drum.

  • Patent number: 6149125
Abstract: A positively controlled ball valve for flowing fluids, in particular water, for instance for use in snow making machines. The valve includes a valve housing (1) having a flow passageway (3) for the water (7), a valve seat (9) arranged in the flow passageway (3), and a valve ball (10) which is movable towards and from the valve seat (9). A force actuation device (4) having a piston rod (20) positively acts on the valve ball (10), which is movable in a race (11) in the valve housing (1). The race extends from the valve seat (9) obliquely outwards-rearwards, upstream of the flow of water (7). The force actuation device (4) is formed with a piston rod (20) arranged for being able to force the valve ball (10) in the direction away from the valve seat (4) and into the race (11) for the ball. The piston rod (20) is arranged to act on the valve ball (10), in the first stage of the opening of the valve, so that the ball at least partly rolls out of the valve seat (9).

  • Patent number: 6006526
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for making artificial snow with a snow-making machine having a funnel-shaped carrier. The carrier has, at the inlet end thereof, a fan adapted to provide rapid flow of air through the carrier, and at the outlet end thereof, both a ring of atomizing nozzles mounted close to a nose cone of the snow-making machine, and several (preferably three or more) rings of water distribution nozzles. The water nozzles are arranged to eject a curtain of water drops obliquely into the flow of air passing through the carrier. The method involves the steps of: (a) turning on the fan so that a rapid flow of air is moved through the snow-making machine, (b) pressing water under high pressure through the ring of atomizing nozzles, (c) then turning on pressurized water in a first ring of water distribution nozzles, and (d) thereafter, stepwise after each other, turning on pressurized water to the remaining rings of water distribution nozzles.
