  • Patent number: 10108701
Abstract: The invention relates to determining a context of a system so that the system can be controlled or the context information be used in the system. The context of a system is described with tags or words that characterize e.g. the state of the system, the surroundings of the system and the state of the user. These tags are determined at multiple time instances. The tags are collected over a first time span and a second time span, and the two (or more) sets of tags are used to determine the context of the system. If the determination using the two sets gives a different result, that is, there is a large distance between the two derived contexts, it is determined that a change in context has occurred. Detecting the change in context can be used to control the system, e.g. by changing the applications presented to the user on the user interface, or by changing the state and/or priority of applications.

  • Patent number: 9539145
Abstract: Systems and techniques for providing data to a user in the form of perceived light signals caused by transcutaneous stimulation of the user's optic nerve. User output data, suitably representing data collected, generated, or processed by a data processing device, is used to generate user output data. The user output data is converted to representations corresponding to light signals, and control functions are performed to cause generation of electrical impulses which, when applied to the skin of a user, stimulate the optic nerve of the user so as to cause the user to perceive the light signals.

  • Patent number: 9313567
Abstract: In an embodiment an apparatus includes a graphical display panel and a loudspeaker. The panel has a display layer for displaying images and defines a plurality of apertures penetrating through at least the display layer. The loudspeaker includes a diaphragm arranged substantially parallel to the display layer. Sound from the loudspeaker diaphragm is directed outside a host device through the apertures. The speaker may be an electret or a piezo-electric speaker for thinness. There may be apertures on an opposed side of the host device housing to achieve a dipole pattern which is directed and gives acoustic privacy to the user, or a rear acoustic cavity for a monopole pattern which more broadly disperses the sound. One illustrated embodiment is selectable between monopole and dipole. Size and total area of the holes determines acoustic resistance and so a method is described to determine those from physical parameters of the display panel.

  • Patent number: 9298970
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to facilitate interaction with a computing device, such as interaction with an object viewable via a display of a computing device. In the context of a method, an object viewable via a display is identified, such as by facial recognition. The method also includes determining that the object has become aligned with an operation indicator as a result of movement of the display relative to the object. In response to determining that the object is aligned with the operation indicator, the method also performs an operation associated with the operation indicator. In this regard, a method may perform the operation upon at least one aspect associated with the object. Corresponding apparatus and computer program products are also provided.

  • Patent number: 9239624
Abstract: A free hand gesture control user interface is described. Components of the interface system may include a stereo vision camera, or multiple cameras, a control unit, a projector and a projecting surface. In an automotive application, the projecting surface may be the windscreen in the vehicle or a mounted screen. The camera together with software modules in the control unit define a gesture acceptance border and a gesture acceptance space within which hand gestures may be imaged, defined for various control actions, and executed. The hand images are analyzed in slices of the gesture acceptance space to determine hand orientation (open or closed) and/or motion.

  • Patent number: 9112822
Abstract: An apparatus may include a messaging module configured to suggest a message segment in order to draft a message. A contextual characteristic determiner may be used to determine contextual characteristics of the apparatus, the recipient of a call, and/or the user of the apparatus and thereby the messaging module may suggest the message segment based on the contextual characteristics. The contextual characteristics may include user emotions, which may be recognized by an emotion recognizer. Message segments may also be based on prior messaging history. Thereby, the apparatus may suggest message segments in order to more easily draft messages when, for example, initiating or responding to attempted voice communications. Further, the apparatus may include a reminder scheduler which is configured to schedule a reminder to respond to an attempted voice communication.
