  • Publication number: 20130338746
Abstract: A 3D microelectrode device includes a flexible substrate containing poly-dimethyl siloxane (PDMS). The device may be fabricated in a miniature form factor suitable for attachment to a small organ such as a lateral gastrocnemius muscle of a live rat. In addition to providing a miniaturized, conformable attachment, the device provides an anchoring action via one or more microelectrodes, each having an insertable tip particularly shaped to provide the anchoring action. Furthermore, a base portion of each of the microelectrodes is embedded inside conductive poly-dimethyl siloxane (cPDMS). The cPDMS is contained in a pad that is coupled to a conductive track embedded in the flexible substrate. Embedding of the base portion inside the cPDMS material not only allows the microelectrode to bend in various directions, but also provides good electrical conductivity while eliminating the need for attachment processes using solder or epoxy adhesives.

  • Patent number: 8589357
Abstract: A technique for making versions of rows of a user-defined tracked table temporally queryable. The database management system of the technique permits temporal queries of user-defined tables. The queries return versions of rows in the user-defined table that are currently in an undo log maintained by the database system. Associated with the tracked table are a system history table which contains versions of the rows and temporal metadata indicating when the versions were in the tracked table and a system form history table which contains versions of the form of the tracked table and metadata indicating when the tracked table had the form. These tables are created and maintained by a background process in the database management system. A temporal query on the tracked table combines results from the undo log with results from the system history table. The results' form is determined by the system form history table.

  • Patent number: 8539225
Abstract: A method for deploying a trust bridge in an ad hoc wireless network can provide interoperability for multi-organizational authentication. The method includes processing at a delegate certification authority (DCA) node device authorizations received from of a plurality of certification authorities (CAs) of different organizations, where the authorizations authorize the DCA node device to serve as a DCA representing the CAs (step 1105). The DCA node device then processes context information received from the ad hoc wireless network (step 1110). Next, the DCA node device determines, based on the context information, that a second node device should be enabled as a new trust bridge (step 1115). The DCA node device then performs a trust bridge deployment to enable the second node device to serve as the new trust bridge (step 1120).

  • Patent number: 8519225
Abstract: The invention relates to identifying and evaluating target coding sequences for control of plant parasitic nematodes by inhibiting one or more biological functions, and their use. The invention provides methods and compositions for identification of such sequences and for the control of a plant-parasitic nematode population. By feeding one or more recombinant double stranded RNA molecules provided by the invention to the nematode, a reduction in disease may be obtained through suppression of nematode gene expression. The invention is also directed to methods for making transgenic plants that express the double stranded RNA molecules, and the plant cells and plants obtained thereby.

  • Patent number: 8423761
Abstract: A method and device are useful for enabling a trust relationship using an expired public key infrastructure (PKI) certificate. The method includes determining at a relying party a maximum permissible grace period during which the PKI certificate can be conditionally granted a valid status (step 905). Next, at the relying party an uncertainty interval is determined, during which the relying party is unable to detect a revocation of the PKI certificate (step 910). A certificate grace period is then determined at the relying party from a function of the maximum permissible grace period, the uncertainty interval and at least one attribute defined in the PKI certificate (step 915). Using the PKI certificate, a trust relationship is then enabled between the relying party and a certificate holder of the PKI certificate, after determining the grace period and before an expiration of the grace period (step 920).

  • Patent number: 8411039
Abstract: A computer keyboard comprises a touch control display panel comprising a display unit, a plurality of touch sensing units, and a display control unit. The display unit is utilized for displaying icons of control keys. The touch sensing units are utilized for sensing pressed status of the control keys, and transmitting pressure sensing signals and position signals to a host. The display control unit is utilized for receiving icons of the control keys from the host, and making the display unit display icons of the control keys. When an external force presses one of the control keys of the touch control display panel, a specific touch sensing unit senses pressed status of a position corresponding to the pressed control key, and make the host start or terminate an executable program according to link of the executable program corresponding to the pressed control key.

  • Patent number: 8349727
Abstract: Stretchable multi-chip modules (SMCMs) are capable of withstanding large mechanical deformations and conforming to curved surfaces. These SMCMs may find their utilities in elastic consumer electronics such as elastic displays, skin-like electronic sensors, etc. In particular, stretchable neural implants provide improved performances as to cause less mechanical stress and thus fewer traumas to surrounding soft tissues. Such SMCMs usually comprise of various electronic components attached to or embedded in a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate and wired through stretchable interconnects. However, reliably and compactly connecting the electronic components to PDMS-based stretchable interconnects is very challenging. This invention describes an integrated method for high-density interconnection of electronic components through stretchable interconnects in an SMCM. This invention has applications in high-density SMCMs, as well as high-density stretchable/conformable neural interfaces.

  • Patent number: 8352617
Abstract: A computer-implemented method, system and computer program product for protecting data being transferred during a session with an application are presented. In response to receiving a session request that includes an application identifier for an application, a data processing node establishes a session with the application and assigns a session identifier for that session. A session response, which includes the session identifier, to the session request is sent. In response to receiving a first request that includes the session identifier, a first pipe in the session is established. This first pipe enables data related to the first request to be isolated according to an assigned first pipe identifier for the first pipe. A first response to the first request is sent, wherein the first response comprises the session identifier and the first pipe identifier.
