    Abstract: A magnetic alignment system is disclosed, including a magnet array (10), a motor rotor (20), a fixed tooling (30) and a force sensor (40). The motor rotor (20) is disposed over the magnet array (10) and is connected via the force sensor (40) to the fixed tooling (30) that is positionally fixed relative to the magnet array (10). By varying an angle of a three-phase current supplied to a specific one of three-phase coil assemblies in the motor rotor (20) within an angular range for magnetic alignment and measuring a force generated by the specific one of three-phase coil assemblies using the force sensor (40), an angle of magnetic alignment for the specific one of three-phase coil assemblies is determinable based on the angle of three-phase current that causes the specific one of three-phase coil assemblies to generate a maximum force.

    Abstract: A substrate carrier having a diamond-like carbon coating disposed thereon is provided. The diamond-like carbon coating may have the property of being substantially resistant to commonly used cleaning processes performed during the fabrication of photovoltaic cells, such as cleaning processes using an NF3 plasma. Additionally, a method of forming a diamond-like carbon coating on a substrate carrier is provided. The method includes positioning a substrate carrier in a processing chamber and forming a diamond-like carbon coating thereon. Forming the diamond-like carbon coating includes flowing a carbon-containing gas into a processing chamber and dissociating the carbon-containing gas. Furthermore, a method of quick removal of diamond-like carbon coatings from processing chamber walls, processing chamber components, substrate carriers, and other objects is provided.

    Abstract: Electro-optic modulators are disclosed. An electro-optic modulator includes an optical ring resonator, an optical waveguide, and a cavity of electro-optic material. The waveguide has a first portion positioned adjacent the resonator to create a first coupling region and a second portion positioned adjacent the resonator to create a second coupling region. The cavity of electro-optic material is embedded within the waveguide between the first portion and the second portion. A method of optical modulation includes the steps of receiving light into an optical waveguide, coupling a portion of the light from the waveguide into an optical ring resonator at a first coupling region between the waveguide and the resonator, transmitting the light remaining in the waveguide into a cavity of electro-optic material embedded within the waveguide, and transmitting the light from the cavity to a second coupling region between the waveguide and the resonator.

    Abstract: Devices and systems which include on-chip waveguides with flattened dispersion are described. In one aspect, silicon nitride slot waveguides that exhibit four zero-dispersion wavelengths with a flattened dispersion over a wavelength range of 500 nm are obtained. The disclosed silicon nitride slot waveguides are used to generate a two-octave supercontinuum from 630 nm to 2650 nm, enabling (a) on-chip generation of 5 fs optical pulses as short as 1.3 cycles, and (b) sensitive single-shot measurements of the absolute carrier-envelope phase using a single integrated waveguide. In another aspect, silicon slot waveguides that exhibits four zero-dispersion wavelengths with a flattened dispersion over a wavelength range of 670-nm are obtained. An octave-spanning supercontinuum is generated in the disclosed silicon slot waveguide, over a wavelength range from 1217 nm to 2451 nm, approximately from bandgap wavelength to half-bandgap wavelength.

In one aspect, a method includes propagating a first wave along an axis of a multimode waveguide in a forward direction, the first optical wave having a first frequency; propagating a second wave along the axis of the multimode waveguide in a backward direction, the second wave having a second frequency; the waveguide configured to support multiple modes, including at least a fundamental mode and a second mode; and the propagating the first wave occurs at a same time as the propagating the second wave to generate a third wave in the forward direction having a third frequency and fourth wave in the backward direction having a fourth frequency.
