  • Patent number: 6023823
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved method and apparatus for uniformly treating strand-like material. The apparatus comprises a coiler head having a coiler diameter d and a conveyor belt having a belt width w, wherein the ratio of the coiler diameter d to the belt width w is from about 1.05:1 to about 1.40:1. The method comprises treating the strand-like material in such apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5464584
Abstract: A method for producing carpet yarn produces yarn having substantial soil hiding, soil repelling and resistance to staining with acid dye characteristics. The yarn is made by forming at least one hollow trilobal fiber from a molten nylon polymer having an amine end group level below about 25 meq/kg, the fiber having a modification ratio of about 2 and a void volume of at least 3%; quenching the formed fiber sufficiently to solidify the molten nylon; immediately after quenching, at a yarn speed of at least 300 mpm, finishing the fiber with spin finish containing fluorochemical; fully drawing the finished fiber; texturing the finished yarn by a hot fluid texturing process; and subsequently, applying to the textured yarn a sulfonated stainblocker, the stainblocker being heated to at least 50.degree. C. and applied while the fiber temperature is at least about 100.degree. C. in the stainblocker application step.

  • Patent number: 5208107
Abstract: A multilobal synthetic polymeric filament has a single approximately axially extending central void. The total cross-sectional void area of the filament is between about 3 and about 10 percent void.

  • Patent number: 5125818
Abstract: Capillary groups for a spinnerette include sheath and core openings to produce a spun bi-component fiber having a trilobal or triangular profile. A triangular or trilobal configured outer sheath arrangement surrounds a trilobal cross-section core which is alternatively oriented with its lobes toward the sheath tips or rotated 60 degrees thereto. Different sheath arrangements are also disclosed for producing bi-component sheath/core trilobal fibers with and without voids.
