  • Publication number: 20120172793
Abstract: In one aspect, a fixturing member for fixing a source of flowable material relative to a pen injector so as to permit introduction of the flowable material into the pen injector is provided herein. The fixturing member includes a body having a web with opposing proximal and distal faces. A distal wall extends distally from the distal face of the web, with the distal wall at least partially encompassing a distal chamber. Features are formed on the body for removable mounting onto a pen injector. Also, features are formed on the body for mounting onto a source of flowable material, A cannula extends through the web the cannula having proximal and distal ends with a lumen extending therebetween. The distal end of the cannula is located in the distal chamber and positioned such that, with the member being mounted to a pen injector, the distal end is located to be in the pen injector.

  • Patent number: 8137313
Abstract: A medical device for the injection of a product. The device includes a body receiving an injection needle and a container containing the product to be injected; an arrangement for holding the needle in an injection position; an arrangement for holding the container in a position permitting injection; and, a piston engaged in the container. The device also includes first and second actuators which make it possible, at the end of the injection, to respectively release the arrangement for holding the needle before, or simultaneously to, the release of the arrangement for holding the container. A container support is mounted slidably on the body and is displaceable relative to the latter in order to perform the injection. The container support is held in a standby position before injection with the needle being held in the injection position.

  • Publication number: 20120053516
Abstract: A medical injector is provided herein which includes first and second body portions rotatably coupled together; a displaceable plunger disposed in at least one of the first and second body portions; a spring disposed to advance the plunger; and, a releasable retainer for retaining the plunger in a first portion against force of the spring. The releasable retainer releases the plunger upon a predetermined extent of relative rotation between the first and second body portions, thus allowing the spring to advance the plunger. Advantageously, the subject invention provides a medical injector having an automated plunger drive which is triggered upon rotation of injector body portions, thereby minimizing premature or failed activations.

  • Publication number: 20120041366
Abstract: A medical injector is provided herein having a body and a reservoir disposed in the body, the reservoir including at least first and second mixable components. At least one stopper is associated with the reservoir where distal advancement of the stopper over a predetermined distance causes mixing of the mixable components. A plunger is disposed in the body, along with a knob stem and a knob fixed to the knob stem so as to be rotatable therewith. A sleeve is telescopingly disposed over the knob stem, wherein the knob stem and the sleeve have cooperating elements formed thereon which selectively permit rotation of the knob stem to be transmitted to the sleeve so that the knob stem and the sleeve may rotate together. A spring is also provided for urging the sleeve distally. A releasable retainer releasably retains the sleeve against force of the spring. Rotation of the knob releases the sleeve and allows the spring to displace the sleeve distally.

  • Patent number: 8070741
Abstract: A medical device is provided which includes a shield system and a syringe which is coupled to the shield system. The shield system includes a syringe holder and a shield which is slidably coupled to the holder. A spring resiliently urges the shield from a retracted position to an extended position. Stop members are provided on the holder and shield for maintaining the shield in the retracted position. The syringe is slidably coupled to the holder, and extends within the shield. Axial movement of the syringe with respect to the holder causes disengagement of the stop members, allowing the spring to move the shield to the extended position. Detents are provided on the holder for maintaining the shield in the extended position.

  • Publication number: 20110201999
Abstract: A medical injector is provided herein having a body and a needle mounting surface movable relative to the body, the needle mounting surface having features for mounting a needle thereto. In an initial state, the needle mounting surface is disposed within the body with no needle mounted thereto. With relative movement between the body and the needle mounting surface, the needle mounting surface is urged out of the body. Advantageously, a medical injector is provided which ensures proper sequence in preparation of the device, particularly with respect to the step of allowing mounting of a medical needle to the device subsequent to preparation of the medicament to be administered.

  • Publication number: 20110054390
Abstract: Provided is an extended use self-contained, wearable medical device. The device is preferably configured with an infusion deployment mechanism for variably inserting and retracting an infusion needle to different depths, or completely retracting the infusion needle from the infusion site and then re-inserting the infusion needle after a predetermined period of time, throughout an infusion cycle for extending the viability of the infusion site. Another embodiment comprises dual needle deployment mechanisms which may also variably insert and retract the infusion needles. A flow sensor is preferably provided for detecting the stoppage of flow through the infusion cannula and signaling the needle deployment mechanism to attempt infusion at a different depth or to deploy a second infusion needle. A re-fillable reservoir assembly is preferably provided for supplying a drug over the extended use of the device.

  • Publication number: 20090299325
Abstract: A filling system for syringes utilizing short needles to be filled from a vial having a thick septum is described. The system may be useful in any situation where the septum or vial stopper of a medication container is thicker than the usable length of the needle on the delivery device. Preferably, the syringe is filled just prior to use. The short needle includes an optional limiter which only permits a certain predetermined length of the needle cannula to protrude beyond the limiter a distance which limits penetration of the needle tip into both the skin and a vial stopper. The system and adapter may be useful for needles having a protrusion distance from approximately 0.5 mm to 3 mm, or any needle with a protrusion length shorter that the thickness of a septum to be accessed. Furthermore, a device is provided with shielding capabilities to shield the needle of the device.
