  • Patent number: 5595557
Abstract: An exercise machine with two sets of pedals comprising a frame of a rigid configuration positionable upon a recipient surface such as a floor. A raised support in a box-like configuration extends upwardly from the rearward portion of the frame. A seat portion is positioned upon the support for the receipt of a user. A forward set of foot pedals is secured on a first horizontal axis with respect to the frame adjacent to the forward end thereof. The pedals are adapted to be rotated by the feet of a user. A rearward set of hand pedals are secured on a second horizontal axis with respect to the support adjacent to the upper extent thereof for being held and rotated by the hands of a user. A central drive shaft is located intermediate the first axis and second axis parallel with the forward and rearward ends of the frame. Drive means couple the central drive shaft with the hand pedals and the foot pedals.

  • Patent number: 4373717
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a wrist curl machine fabricated to isolate the wrist muscle and lower forearm muscle for development to the exclusion of all others and is defined by three hand grip areas, two sprockets associated with these three hand grip areas and chain elements operatively connected with these sprockets which in turn traverse through weights and a counter balance system whereby the counter balance system negates the weight of the elements associated with the structure and the variable weights themselves provide the total resistance to the work done by the wrist or the forearm of the exerciser. The framework is associated with and supports the hand grip, sprocket, chain, counter balance, and weight mechanism so that the machine can be used when the exerciser is erect.

  • Patent number: 4349192
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a counterbalance weight system for use with exercising machines in order to negate the weight that is intrinsic to a weight lifting structure, so as to provide a true indication of the amount of work being done. The machine is defined by a framework which supports a plurality of weights the magnitude of which is selectively adjustable, an area to accommodate a user so as to lift the weights, and counterbalance weights operatively connected and opposing the preceeding structure so that the weight of the associated hardware necessary to perform the exercise is effectively cancelled out, and the weights lifted and selectable are solely that which constitutes the work of the exercise.

  • Patent number: 4349193
Abstract: An lower abdominal twist machine including a frame having weights slidably mounted in a cage with the weights drivably connected to a rotatably mounted seat for an individual together with a handgrip on the frame which is grasped by the individual in a seated condition on the seat so that the seated individual grasping the handgrip may twist the lower portion of the body in either direction rotating the seat against the resistance offered by the weights thereby exercising the abdominal region of the individual's torso.

  • Patent number: 4349191
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an upper abdominal sidebend machine including a base frame which carries a weight supporting cage thereon, a seating area supported by the base, a roller trackway which revolves about the seat having an upwardly extending transverse track which supports a pair of upwardly extending pads thereon whose displacement from a center area on the roller is adjustable so that an exercisor may loop one arm over the pad and one arm in front of the pad to provide an exercise in which rotation about the seat does work on the upper abdomen. The roller is connected by means of a sprocket to a plurality of weights through chains and sprockets and a cam so that the twisting motion that one undergoes in performing the exercise can be met with weighted resistance to reduce the number of repetitions required in conditioning this area of the body.

  • Patent number: 4349194
Abstract: Apparatus for exercising the inner and outer thigh muscles of an individual which includes a frame having a seat and a weight cage of a weight movable upwardly from a rest position with pivotally mounted leg receiving frames for accommodating the legs of an individual on the seat movable independently in an arcuate path from a predetermined rotary position corresponding to the rest position of the weight by lateral movement of the individual's legs with a chain and sprocket drive for drivably connecting each leg receiving frame to a respective D-shaped cam connected in turn to the weight so that pivotal movement of each of the leg receiving frames from the predetermined rotary position moves the weight upwardly to provide resistance to such lateral leg movement thereby exercising the inner and outer thigh muscles of the individual.

  • Patent number: 4333644
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a hack-squat machine in which hips, thighs, hamstrings, calves, and lower back muscles are exercised. The device includes a base frame, a weight cage having a plurality of weights supported therein, and a drive system including sprockets, a cam and chain drive attached to a padded back support which is disposed upon a trackway. One's feet are placed upon an inclined platform the angle of which is adjustable and the exercise comprises sliding the back support up and down the trackway. The back support is provided with a sled disposed between the trackway and a back face of the back support that is capable of engaging and dis-engaging so that the back support can be advanced up and down the trackway without the encumbrance of the weights so that an exerciser can not only vary the degree to which the squat exercise will be performed, but also will allow one to disengage the exercise at any time should the need arise.

  • Patent number: 4322071
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a standing vertical leg curl machine including a framework having a base and a plurality of upstanding vertical support members interconnected by horizontal braces, a pair of spaced thigh pads connected to a thigh bar having an adjustable interfit between complimentary formed tubes carried on the framework provided with a locking device for adjustment, a downwardly and outwardly extending exercise arm fashioned between the pair of thigh pads having at extremity remote from a pivot and sprocket carried on the framework a pair of transverse pads which co-act against the back portion of the calves of a person using the exercise device when the thighs of this person address the thigh pads. The sprocket is connected to a second sprocket formed with a cam provided with a weight and cable system which works against an exerciser when the legs are curled towards the back of the person.

  • Patent number: 4311305
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a chest and bust machine defined by a base frame from which emanates a plurality of upwardly extending support rods on a pair of which is deployed a vertical back support and a vertically adjustable seat mechanism. Provided in front of the back and seat areas there is a pair of spaced parallel pivot arms pivotted to the base frame at its lowermost extremity and connected at an upward extremity thereof to a plurality of chains which interact with sprockets disposed upon a common axle which, when rotated, rotates a cam disposed therebetween. The cam is connected to a further chain which operates a plurality of weights the magnitude of which is selectable. Work is done by rotating the pivot arms away from the user of the machine so as to provide chest and bust development in such a fashion that the exerciser is constrained from allowing any other muscles to contribute in the exercise, and the work done is on a direct drive basis.

  • Patent number: 4240626
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an abdominal waist exercising device characterized in that exercise motions developed by the working against of weights is ultimately transferred from the back of the knee to exercising muscles throughout the groin area. The machine is comprised of a cushion bar oriented and nested, against the hock of the knee connected by a linkage to a counter balanced cam which in turn is connected by a cable element through a series of pulleys and ultimately to a plurality of weights which are constrained to translate in a vertical direction only. The person using the machine is placed on a bench having a back portion capable of adjustment whereby the back of the person may be offset relative to the horizontal plane. Hand grips are further provided for additional support during the exercise.

  • Patent number: 4239210
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a machine for use in exercising the upper arm area by performing what is known as an arm curl. The machine is defined by a seating area, a pivotable arm support table, and a bar fashioned to comfortably engage the hands of the user. This provides a rotation about an axis which is transferred to a cam whose configuration causes proportional resistance throughout the exercise for maximum arm and shoulder development. The cam is operatively connected to weights through a chain drive and the increasing radius of the cam is that which provides the proportional change and resistance.
