  • Patent number: 4236712
Abstract: An apparatus for exercising the calf muscles defined by a framework in which a top extremity thereof is provided with a pair of horizontally extending arms pivoted to a pair of top frame members interconnected and capable of rotation, shoulder pads disposed on the bottom face of these rods at extremities remote from the pivot point, a rigidifying cross brace provided with an opening through which a vertically extending rod is adjustably pinned. This rod traverses through a plurality of weights whose magnitude is selectable and substantially beneath the shoulder pads there is provided on the floor a toe support so that one's toes while standing thereon allows the heel to extend out into space. The exercise is performed by flexing the arch and standing on one's toes which provides tension to the calf muscle.

  • Patent number: 4200279
Abstract: Disclosed herein are devices which are characterized in their ability to isolate a specific lower body muscle and by working against weights through a system of pulleys and cams, provide concentrated development of that specific lower body muscle. The mechanisms described hereinafter include a place to accommodate the machine user, a substantially cylindrical cushioned element oriented for engagement by the users legs, and a cable and gearing network including chain and cam and pulley mechanisms associated with weights the magnitude of which are selectable so that the work done against the weights focuses on a specific lower body muscle depending upon the orientation of the user and additionally provides an orientation of the weights relative to the user such that any sudden release of the load or work being done against the weights can in no way engage and harm the user.

  • Patent number: 4195834
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a machine for exercising various parts of the body and muscles. In one form of the invention there is provided a vertical shoulder exercising machine wherein bars are pushed up on to exercise vertical shoulder muscles and the like. The lateral shoulder exercising machine has hand grips adapted to be manually expanded to actuate a cam mechanism which is operatively connected to weights so that the user can perform the desired exercises.

  • Patent number: 4149714
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a seated leg press exercise machine comprising a seat which is adjustable on a trackway, a pair of foot platforms associated near the seat to allow one's feet to be placed thereon, a pivotal bar connecting these foot pedals so that horizontal displacement of one extremity of this pivot bar not only swings about an arc caused by the pivot, but is also connected at the extremity remote from the pivot with a linkage which indirectly lifts a pre-selected magnitude of weights. The indirect linkage includes a chain running through series of gears, a shaft fastened to one of the gears, a cam member attached to the shaft, a cable attached to the cam, and weights attached to the cable. Therefore, when the pedals are displaced in a horizontal sense, the linkage follow and react with this motion, and exercise work is done against the weights. Supporting the linkages, weights, seats and foot pedals is a framework.
