  • Patent number: 6865778
Abstract: A hinge mechanism for pivotally connecting a flip onto a housing includes a bush, a spring, and a camshaft. The bush is connected to the flip and has a sidewall, a receiving space defined by the sidewall, and a protrusion. The protrusion is protruded from the sidewall. The camshaft has a first end, a second end, and a shaped notch. The shaped notch includes a first concave portion and a second concave portion, and the protrusion is slidably received within the shaped notch. The first end of the camshaft is slidably coupled to the bush, and the second end of the camshaft is restrictedly coupled to the housing. When the flip is pivoted on the housing, the bush simultaneously rotates around the pivoting axis of the hinge mechanism so that the protrusion slides within the shaped notch from the first concave portion to the second concave portion.

  • Patent number: 6859978
Abstract: A flip phone having a hinge mechanism with an auto-lock function includes a main body, a flipper, a sleeve shaft, a torsion spring, a first bush and a second bush, a torsion spring, and a first chute and a second chute. The torsion spring having a first spring end and a second spring end is disposed between the first bush and the second bush. The first spring end connected to the first bush synchronously rotates with the first bush and the second spring end connected to the second bush synchronously rotates with the second bush. The first bush is rotatably coupled to the first chute, and the second bush is rotatably coupled to the torsion spring chamber so that the flipper is rotatable around the hinge mechanism longitudinal axis to be in an opened position or a closed position. When the rotating object remains in the closed position, the torsion spring stores energy for unfolding the rotating object.

  • Publication number: 20040204201
Abstract: A hinge mechanism includes a shaft, a cam, a spring and a sliding member. The shaft has a first end and a second end and the cam is movably disposed at the first end and has an inclined plane facing the second end. Also, the spring is disposed at the second end, and the sliding member is disposed on the shaft and is coupled with the spring. The sliding member moves along the shaft due to the elasticity of the spring. In addition, the sliding member has a contact capable of reaching the inclined plane, wherein the cam on which a force is imposed moves toward the second end so that an elastic potential energy is stored as a result of elastic deformation of the spring and the contact of the sliding member presses the inclined plane to rotate the cam by the spring's resilience.

  • Patent number: 6802107
Abstract: A self-locking hinge apparatus with a single stable state includes a pivotal shaft, a retaining ring, a stator, a compression spring, and a rotor. The retaining ring, the compression spring, the stator and the rotor are arranged in series along the pivotal shaft. The stator is slide-able but not rotatable on the pivotal shaft. The rotor is both slide-able and rotatable on the pivotal shaft. By providing the compression spring to enforce a cam-contact between the stator and the rotor, an auto cam sliding pair is then formed to make the hinge apparatus stabilized automatically at the predetermined stable state.

  • Patent number: 6630878
Abstract: A magnetic rotating apparatus is used for connecting a body portion and a rotating portion of a foldable product. The body portion has an assembling portion while the rotating portion has a pivot portion. The rotating portion is secured to the body portion by engaging the pivot portion with the assembling portion, so that the rotating portion is allowed to pivot on the body portion and be positioned at the first stable equilibrium or the second stable equilibrium. The magnetic rotating apparatus comprises a magnetic body component situated in the assembling portion and a magnetic pivot component situated in the pivot portion. The magnetic body component and the magnetic pivot component are disposed as mates. Also, the opposite surfaces of the magnetic pivot component and the magnetic body component have the same polarity. When the rotating portion and the body portion are maintained at the first stable equilibrium, the magnetic pivot component is positioned at one side adjacent to the magnetic body component.

  • Publication number: 20030179880
Abstract: A magnetic hinge apparatus having a hinge housing, a hinge shaft, an immobilized magnetic device, and a rotatable magnetic device is disclosed. The hinge housing has a cavity for receiving the immobilized magnetic device and the rotatable magnetic device. There is no relative motion between the immobilized magnetic device and the hinge housing, due to the firm attachment of the immobilized magnetic device to the hinge housing. The hinge shaft on which the rotatable magnetic device is assembled is inserted in the cavity. When the hinge housing rotates around the hinge shaft, the immobilized magnetic device is simultaneously rotated relatively to the rotatable magnetic device. The rotatable and immobilized magnetic devices are disposed as mates, and the opposite surfaces of the rotatable magnetic device and the immobilized magnetic device have the same polarity. Accordingly, the magnetic hinge apparatus is stably maintained at two equilibrium positions.
