  • Patent number: 6722022
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for calibrating the position of a wafer platform in an ion implanter, and particularly in a medium current ion implanter. The apparatus is constructed by a curvilinear piece formed in a half-circular shape, a pair of linear rods for supporting the curvilinear piece, and at least one cross-bracing rod connected in-between the pair of linear rods for providing rigidity of the apparatus. When the inside peripheral surface of the curvilinear piece intimately engages an outside peripheral surface of the wafer platform of the ion implanter, or when the first and second linear rods fit snugly on the implanter indicative that the wafer platform is properly calibrated at a zero-angle position. When such fitting is not possible, the wafer platform is then adjusted until a snug fitting is made possible.

  • Patent number: 6639151
Abstract: A fixing structure for extension cards includes a set of extension slots, a positioning element and a resilient plate. The positioning element engages on an external side of the set of the extension slots, and the resilient plate is fixing on an internal side of the set of the extension slots. A folded edge of the resilient plate is inserted through a first mounting slot of the positioning element to firmly secure the positioning element on a computer casing. A stem of the resilient plate is pulled toward an inside of the computer casing to release the folded edge of the resilient plate from the first mounting slot of the positioning element so that the positioning element is pushed upward to disengage from the set of extension slots.

  • Patent number: 6525332
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for detecting and compensating the disk tilt of an optical disk and an apparatus using it. The disk tilt causes the coma which degrades the carrier-to-signal ratio of a pickup. To reduce the coma induced by the disk tilt of an optical disk, the pickup of the present invention adapts a two-dimension (2-D) grating to produce a plurality of laser beams for detecting the disk tilt in the radial and tangential direction of the optical disk. In addition, according to the radial and tangential tilts of the disk, an actuation device adjusts a reflection angle of a reflective mean to change the incident angles of the laser beams for the compensation of the coma induced by the disk tilt of the optical disk.

  • Patent number: 6496588
Abstract: A directional dynamic microphone includes a protective cover, a diaphragm in air-tight engagement with the cover, a voice coil, and a magnet with a core pole member and a tubular pole member and disposed rearwardly of the diaphragm. The magnet has an outer front circumferential portion which is spaced apart from an annular wall of the cover to confine a sound passage therebetween, an outer intermediate circumferential portion which engages the annular wall and which defines a sound port opening outwardly and radially for air communication with the sound passage, and an outer rear circumferential portion with sound holes angularly displaced therein and smaller than the sound port. Each sound hole extends inwardly and radially for air communication with a rear major side of the diaphragm. A phase shift effecting sheet veils the sound port so as to impart the microphone with a unidirectional characteristic.

  • Patent number: 6430138
Abstract: A bifocal optical pickup head is disclosed for use in a optical pickup apparatus having a single objective lens, for generating two different focuses (bifocus) to access a compact disc (CD) and a digital versatile disc (DVD), which the thickness is different. When a beam passes through an optical element disclosed in the present invention, numerical aperture is controlled and spherical aberration is reduced by the optical element due to variations in optical path and radius. Therefore, after beams having different numerical apertures are focused by an objective lens, various focuses can be obtained.

  • Publication number: 20020093883
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a structure of pick-up head and its method for accessing signals, which operates in coordination with a disk made by ferroelectric material. An electric field is generated around the ends of two conductive wires by exerting a voltage on the wires. When the ends of the two wires are being close to the disk, the electric field polarizes the data-storing surface, which is formed by the ferroelectric material, so as to reach the function of writing. And as reading is needed, the two wires are also utilized of being induced by the electric lines of polarized area on the ferroelectric material to solve the data signals stored on the disk. Because the structure of pick-up head is simple and it is able to generate a smaller effective electric field, it is advantaged for the trend of miniaturization of pick-up head and capable of increasing the density of data on the disk.

  • Publication number: 20010038577
Abstract: A polarized-dependent optical diffraction device includes a circular polarization beam generator and a diffraction grating. A diffraction grating is formed by a circular birefractive sheet having a corrugated surface with at least each groove filled with a mass of a material of a refractive index which is substantially equal to one of the circular birefractive indices. A circular polarization beam is supplied to the diffraction grating that the circularly-polarized beams traveling in both directions along a specific optical axis have different diffraction effects so as to enhance the utilization efficiency of the light. In particular, an external magnetic field is used to change the circular birefractive indices in such a manner diffraction efficiency is changed, featuring the merit of adjustability.

  • Patent number: 6163765
Abstract: A radio communication system includes a voice recognition system (221) for converting (400) a caller's voice message to a textual speech message. The textual speech message is then transmitted to an intended selective call radio (122). To perform these functions, the radio communication system includes a caller interface circuit (218), a transmitter (116), and a processor (222). To perform voice-to-text conversion, the processor is adapted to cause the caller interface circuit to sample a voice signal generated by the caller during a plurality of frame intervals, and to apply a Fourier transform thereto, thereby generating spectral data. The spectral data is subdivided into a plurality of bands. The spectral envelope of the spectral data is then filtered out to generate filtered spectral data. A Fourier transform is applied thereto to generate an autocorrelation function for each band.
