  • Publication number: 20210251607
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for performing ultrasound imaging are provided to advantageously determine the viscosity of an anatomy. According to one embodiment, a system for determining a viscosity of an anatomy includes an ultrasound transducer, a vibration source, and a processing system in communication with the ultrasound transducer and the vibration source. The processing system is configured to activate the vibration source to induce in the anatomy a first shear wave at a first frequency and a second shear wave at a second frequency, activate the ultrasound transducer to obtain ultrasound data representative of the anatomy that exhibits the first shear wave and the second shear wave, determine a first wave speed of the first shear wave and a second wave speed of the second shear wave, and determine the viscosity of the anatomy by comparing the first wave speed and the second wave speed.

  • Patent number: 11087466
Abstract: The invention provides a method for generating a compound ultrasound image. The method includes acquiring and beamforming channel data. Using the beamformed channel data a plurality of images, each image comprising a plurality of pixels, of a region of interest are obtained and an image information metric, wherein the image metric is associated with a pixel of the plurality of pixels, is assessed. The acquiring of the plurality of images and the assessment of the image metric are performed in parallel. For each image of the plurality of images: a per-pixel weighting for each pixel of the plurality of pixels based on the assessment of the image information metric is determined and applied to each pixel of the plurality of pixels. Finally a compound ultrasound image is generated based on the plurality of weighted pixels of the plurality of images.

  • Publication number: 20210196238
Abstract: In an ultrasound imaging system which produces synthetically transmit focused images, the multiline signals used to form image scanlines are analyzed for speed of sound variation, and a map 60 of this variation is generated. In a preferred implementation, the phase discrepancy of the received multilines caused by speed of sound variation in the medium is estimated in the angular spectrum domain for the receive angular spectrum. Once the phase is estimated for all locations in an image, the differential phase between two points at the same lateral location, but different depth, is computed. This differential phase is proportional to the local speed of sound between the two points. A color-coded two- or three-dimensional map 60 is produced from these speed of sound estimates and presented to the user.

  • Publication number: 20210113182
Abstract: An ultrasound imaging system which uses multiline receive beamforming for synthetic transmit focusing are phase adjusted to account for speed of sound variation in the transmission medium. The phase discrepancy of the received multilines caused by speed of sound variation in the medium is estimated in the frequency domain for both the transmit angular spectrum and the receive angular spectrum. The phase variation is removed in the frequency domain, then an inverse Fourier transform is used to transform the frequency domain results to the spatial domain. In another implementation, the phase discrepancy of the received multilines is estimated and corrected entirely in the spatial domain.

  • Publication number: 20210007714
Abstract: An ultrasound imaging system for analyzing tissue stiffness by shear wave measurement comprises a matrix array probe which acquires shear wave velocity data from three planes of a volumetric region of interest. The velocity data is used to color-code pixels in the planes in accordance with their estimated tissue stiffness. The planes are displayed in their relative spatial orientation in an isometric or perspective display. The positions and orientations of the planes can be changed from the system user interface, enabling a clinician to view selected planes of stiffness information which intersect the region of interest.

  • Publication number: 20200405269
Abstract: The present disclosure describes ultrasound imaging systems and methods configured to generate ultrasound images based on undersampled ultrasound data. The ultrasound images may be generated by applying a neural network trained with samples of known fully sampled data and undersampled data derived from the known fully sampled data to a acquired sparsely sampled data. The training of the neural network may involve training adversarial generative network including a generator and a discriminator. The generator is trained with sets of known undersampled data until the generator is capable of generating estimated image data, which the classifier is incapable of differentiation as either real or fake, and the trained generator may then be applied to unknown undersampled data.

  • Publication number: 20200359994
Abstract: A controller and method for imaging an area of interest of a region within an object using a transoesophageal echo (TEE) probe of a TEE ultrasound acquisition system are 5 provided. The controller includes a memory that stores instructions, and a processor that executes the instructions. When executed by the processor, the instructions cause the controller to perform a process including causing a transthoracic echo (TTE) probe of a TTE ultrasound acquisition system to emit an ultrasound beam to a selected area of interest of a region within the object; switching the TEE probe to a listening mode, enabling the 10 TEE probe detect and receive the ultrasound beam emitted by the TTE probe; and causing a robot to steer the TEE probe to an imaging location in the object using the detected TTE ultrasound beam. The TEE probe shows the area of interest using ultrasound images acquired from the imaging location.

  • Publication number: 20200268345
Abstract: Ultrasound systems and devices that perform scan sequences providing controllable and/or increased frame rates are provided. In one embodiment, an ultrasound system comprises an array of acoustic elements and a processor configured to perform a scan sequence comprising a plurality of transmit-receive pairs. The processor is configured to arrange the plurality of transmit-receive pairs into an aperture. The transmit-receive pairs corresponding to each transmit element correspond to only a portion of the plurality of receive elements and/or the transmit-receive pairs corresponding to each receive element correspond to only a portion of the plurality of transmit elements. Accordingly, fewer transmit-receive pairs are activated leading to faster aperture acquisitions, and therefore faster frame rates. Furthermore, the faster frame rates can be achieved without significant degradations in image quality.

  • Publication number: 20200237345
Abstract: The invention provides methods and systems for generating an ultrasound image. In a method, the generation of an ultrasound image comprises: obtaining channel data, the channel data defining a set of imaged points; for each imaged point: isolating the channel data; performing a spectral estimation on the isolated channel data; and selectively attenuating the spectral estimation channel data, thereby generating filtered channel data; and summing the filtered channel data, thereby forming a filtered ultrasound image. In some examples, the method comprises aperture extrapolation. The aperture extrapolation improves the lateral resolution of the ultrasound image. In other examples, the method comprises transmit extrapolation. The transmit extrapolation improves the contrast of the image. In addition, the transmit extrapolation improves the frame rate and reduces the motion artifacts in the ultrasound image. In further examples, the aperture and transmit extrapolations may be combined.

  • Publication number: 20200214681
Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for generating ultrasound images that have reduced or minimized grating lobe artifacts are provided. In one embodiment, an ultrasound imaging system includes an array of acoustic elements, and a processor in communication with the array. The processor is configured to receive electrical signals from the array, determine, based on the directivity of the acoustic elements, a portion of the electrical signals corresponding to on-axis components, generate a weighting mask based on the portion, and apply the weighting mask to an original image to generate a grating lobe minimized image. Because grating lobe artifacts are caused, in part, by reflections from off-axis objects, applying the weighting mask to an original image can reduce the presence of grating lobe artifacts in the original image.

  • Publication number: 20200209371
Abstract: An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system acquires received beams of echo signals produced in response to a plurality of transmit events. The received beams are combined with refocusing to account for differences in receive beam to transmit event locations. The delays and weights used in the refocusing are supplemented with delays and weights which correct for reverberation artifacts. The received echo signals are processed to detect the presence of reverberation artifacts and a simulated transmission of reverberation signal components to virtual point sources in the image field is calculated. This simulation produces the delays and weights used for reverberation signal compensation, or estimated reverberation signals which can be subtracted from received echo signals to reduce reverberation artifacts.
