  • Publication number: 20010020119
Abstract: This invention is directed to a method of making an olefin product from an oxygenate feedstock and a method of protecting catalytic activity of a silicoaluminophosphate molecular sieve. The methods comprise providing a silicoaluminophosphate molecular sieve having catalytic sites within the molecular sieve; shielding the catalytic sites to protect from loss of catalytic activity; and contacting the protected sieve in its activated state with an oxygenate feedstock under conditions effective to produce an olefin product before undesirable loss of catalytic activity. Undesirable loss in catalytic activity occurs when activated molecular sieve contacting the oxygenate feedstock has a methanol uptake index of at least 0.15.

  • Patent number: 6283834
Abstract: A diaphragm-support disc for a polishing machine of the type in which a work piece to be polished is sandwiched between a radial front face of a diaphragm and a polishing surface or cloth. The diaphragm is extended across and wrapped around the peripheral edge of a radial front face of the disc, and a radial rear face of the diaphragm is subjected to pressure from a fluid. The diaphragm-support disc includes a main annular part that projects from the radial front face of the disc and is located in a peripheral region of the radial front face of the disc a predetermined distance from the peripheral edge of the radial front face of the disc. The main annular part can act on the work piece through the diaphragm so as to press the work piece onto the polishing surface or cloth by an axial displacement of the disc with respect to the polishing surface or cloth.

  • Patent number: 6285904
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining characteristics of tissue is disclosed. The method comprises supplying optical energy to a tissue and detecting at a plurality of locations consequent energy scattered by the tissue. Analysis of the scattered energy as taught herein provides information concerning the properties of the tissue, specifically information related to the fat and lean content and thickness of the tissue. The apparatus comprises a light source adapted to deliver optical energy to a tissue. A plurality of detectors can be mounted at different positions relative to the source to detect energy scattered by the tissue. A signal processor as taught herein can determine characteristics of the tissue from the signals from the detectors and locations of the detectors, specifically information related to the fat and lean content and thickness of the tissue.

  • Publication number: 20010017959
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, optical channels to be demultiplexed are supplied to first and second optical fibers via an optical splitter. Low loss interference filters, for example, coupled to the first and second optical fibers, select respective groups of channels. Each group of channels is next demultiplexed with sub-demultiplexers into individual channels, each of which is then sensed with a corresponding photodetector. Although the optical splitter introduces an optical power loss at the input to the demultiplexer, the interference filters and sub-demultiplexers create little additional loss. As a result, the total power loss associated with the present invention is significantly less than that obtained with a conventional n channel demultiplexer based on a 1×n splitter. Accordingly, large numbers of channels, e.g., in excess of forty can be readily demultiplexed and detected.

  • Patent number: 6282124
Abstract: The present invention is a method for programming SSI cells or an array of said cells. The method achieves very fast programming while consuming only a very small amount of power, which paves the way for new applications such as battery-operated systems, page-mode programming for very high data throughput. The method also allows for the bitline voltage to be increased internally on the chip in order to circumvent the efficiency decrease associated with supply voltage scaling. By exploring the SSI mechanism in the subthreshold regime, an optimum value for the CG voltage is found for which the gate current is no longer maximized, but the energy consumed from the power supply is minimized and the injection efficiency during programming is maximized. The programming of a memory cell in this regime, where the gate current is a very steep function of the CG voltage, is, however, still achieved in a few microseconds while consuming only a very small cell current in the range of nanoamperes.

  • Publication number: 20010016822
Abstract: The present invention provides a network system for storage of medical records. The records are stored in a database on a server. Each record includes two main parts, namely a collection of data elements containing information of medical nature for the certain individual, and a plurality of pointers providing addresses or remote locations where reside other medical data for that particular individual. Each record also includes a data element indicative of the basic type of medical data found at the location pointed to by a particular pointer. This arrangement permits a client workstation to download the record along with the set of pointers which link the client to the remotely stored files. The identification of the basic type of information that each pointer points to allows the physician to select the ones of interest and thus avoid downloading massive amounts of data where only part of that data is needed at that time.

  • Publication number: 20010016693
Abstract: An active implantable medical device, in particular a pacemaker, defibrillator and/or cardiovertor, able to identify and eliminate the artifacts of the detection of cardiac events. This device detects spontaneous events in a ventricular and/or atrial cavity cardiac; measures the intervals separating the successive detected events collected by the detection circuits; analyzes the cardiac rate of heartbeat, according to the measured values of intervals; and eliminates double detections of the same cardiac event, namely when an event detected is followed of an artifact likely to be also detected. The elimination of double detections is performed by seeking to identify an alternation of short intervals (t1, t3, t5, . . . ) and long intervals (t2, t4, t6, . . . ) in the successive measured intervals (t1, t2, t3, t4, t5, t6, . . . ) separating a series of consecutive events (R1, R′1, R2, R′2, R3, R′3, . . .
